Hello! In an effort to help out my son, I am going to attempt the DIY starter replacement on his 04 325i auto. I know what a challenge this is going to be, so before I get started, I just wondered if someone would double check me that it is in fact the starter that is bad.
Symptoms: Starter spins but doesn't engage the flywheel...it will do this a dozen or so times before it actually starts...has progressively worsened over the past month or so.
Battery: I did the secret handshake on the dash and the voltage shows 12.2 with the key on then 14 after it starts. I took the battery off and had it tested at two shops..both showed it right at 13 V off the car.
I dread this job, and I just wanted to get some feedback on whether you think it is indeed the culprit. Many thanks.
