FS / FT: 2005 MINI Cooper S. BBS, Bilstein, etc.

For Sale: 2005 MINI Cooper S, 6spd Transmission w/ LSD.

Price: $9500 or trades considered.

Mileage: 96,2xx

Location: Upstate NY, 12180.

Contact: Kuzmak1982@gmail.com

Well, automotive A.D.D. has struck again, as it tends to do every two years or so, and I think it***8217;s finally time to move on from the MINI. This car has been nothing less than a pleasure to own, and pound-for-pound has brought me more smiles than any other vehicle I***8217;ve owned (FC3S, WRX, MS3, various SR20DET Nissans). Ever since their release in the US, I***8217;ve always been intrigued by the R53 MINI Cooper S; a tiny, almost toy-like car, it promised to be not only hugely fun to drive, but is unexpectedly practical as well. With the rear seats folded down, I can carry two snowboards and two huge bags of gear, or a full-size road bike with the front wheel detached. Equipped with snow tires, even in it's lowered form I had no problem getting to and from the Ski Resorts in the middle of a snowstorm.

As you may or may not know, this particular generation of the MINI Cooper S came equipped with a factory forged, 8.3:1 CR, 1.6L Supercharged engine (Eaton M45 blower), Getrag 6-speed manual transmission, and stiff sport-tuned suspension. A zillion other options were available upon order, and I***8217;ll highlight those below.

Ownership History:

I am technically the 3rd owner of this car. The gentleman I purchased the car from only owned it for about 8 months, seldom drove it, and finally sold it due to getting a company car. Worth mentioning, this particular owner was/is the Product Manager for Porsche***8217;s Sports Car Division (Tim Cupp). He***8217;s a true enthusiast and knew how to drive and care for this car. Before Tim, the original owner was a Doctor from New Jersey. Like Tim, this man was a Porsche enthusiast, 911 owner, and spared no expense when owning and caring for this car. I***8217;ve followed suit, and continued meticulous maintenance and record keeping during my ownership.

Maintenance:

I have literally every single receipt for maintenance or modifications done to this car from 2005 through last month, filed away in chronological order. The folder is easily an inch thick... As an enthusiast, I can***8217;t stress enough the importance and benefit of having this information available. You will never need to guess what work this car has received; it***8217;s all there for your immediate reference. If you have a specific question about maintenance history, feel free to ask. I don***8217;t think I even need to say it but, this car has always received full synthetic oil in the correct weight and changed every 3500 miles or so (Castrol 5w-40 Euro and Mobil 0w-40 Euro). Upon every other oil change, I also changed the spark plugs with NGK ***8220;copper***8221; plugs, one step colder than stock. I also swapped the stock gear oil for Redline MTL 70w-90 at ~80,000 miles.

Factory Options:

-Chili Red body, w/ white roof and mirror caps.

-No sunroof model! (saves ~50lbs, eliminates leaks, and increases chassis rigidity).

-Factory LSD option (rare & often overlooked).

-Winter Package (heated front seats, washer jets, mirrors, and headlight washers).

-Gray and black cloth seats (no sliding around while cornering, or sticky summer-butt).

-Xenon HID headlights.

-Harmon Kardon stereo, w/ Aux jack.

Modifications:

Engine

-Helix 15% supercharger reduction pulley (~15psi).

-Custom one-off Carbon Fiber Air Box, w/ K&N cone filter.

-Stainless steel Tri-Y header, catless (no CEL w/ adjustable Vibrant O2 spacer).

-MagnaFlow Stainless Cat-Back System (2.5***8221; piping, dual muffler).

-Valeo single mass flywheel conversion (saves weight, more reliable, and far more cost effective to replace.

-NGK V-Power ***8220;Copper***8221; plugs, one step colder (BKR7E, gapped at 0.030***8221;)

-Autometer ProLite Vacuum/Boost gauge.

Suspension / Handling

-Bilstein PSS9 Coilover suspension.

-Hotchkis adjustable front camber plates.

-M7 strut tower brace w/ tower reinforcement plates (prevents strut tower ***8220;mushrooming***8221;).

-RDR 3-way adjustable rear anti-sway bar.

-BBS RG-R forged wheels in gunmetal (17x7, et +40). 16lbs each.

-Bridgestone Potenza RE760 Sport tires (less than 5k miles old).

-PowerStop drilled & slotted rotors, front and rear.

-Akebono ceramic brake pads, front and rear.

Visual

-Aero upper grill.

-PlastiDipped Lower Grill.

-GoMINIGo Front License Plate Holder

-Cravenspeed Gauge pod.

These tasteful modifications combined with the inherent playful nature of this car has made it truly entertaining to drive. Overall, there is about $8,000 in quality modifications done to this car. For those interested in the numbers game, the car should have about 225 horsepower at the crank, and weigh in at ~2500lbs. That***8217;s a power-to-weight ratio that***8217;s nothing to sneer at. You could easily increase power by adding an even smaller pulley, injectors, camshaft and/or an ECU tune.

Full Disclosure:

This car is loud at WOT, as one would expect from a catless supercharged car. This car is also set-up to be very rigid (though damping is 10-way adjustable). This car is not perfect; it has front-end stone chips from the highway, and a few fine scratches in places. Having said that, there are no dings on the car whatsoever, and zero rust. Occasionally, there is a slight squeak in the passenger rear suspension when riding over bumps. I'm fairly certain it's just a worn bushing. Overall, it's a clean, well-cared for, well-documented, hugely fun and reliable car.

If you have any questions or would like to view the car, feel free to contact me via Email. I will not respond to lowball offers, or offers without seeing the car beforehand. Oh, and if the sale price is right, I'll include the stock 16***8221; alloy wheels, w/ one season old Dunlop Graspic DS3 snow tires mounted on them. Thanks for looking, folks.

Finally decided to post my e90 lol.

I picked up my E90 a little over a year ago after selling my e46. I wanted to get a 335 for the power but from what I read they had too many problems, so I decided to go with a 330 because of reliability.

No power to fuel pump

I have gone through my owners manual for some troubleshooting ideas but have not come up with a specific diagnosis. I have a 1992 325i alpina that will turn over but will not start, we checked the fuel pump for power and it had none going to it,so we changed the dme and fuel pump relays and still no power, it broke down when I was driving in the rain so I thought maybe water in the fuel filter, but I don't know why the fuelpump wouldn't have power, so is this an electrical issuse or could it be the fuel filter or pump? I don't have much experience working on vehicles so any simple things I could check that would cause these problems as well would be appreciated!

E46 Possible 8" tablet Install Ideas/mockup

Hi Guys

Been putting off doing a nexus7 install in my E46 for a while and want to know your thoughts on a 8" tablet install.

Ive done some measurements of the bezel and its roughly 250mm wide x 120mm height.

Now the only tablet to possibly fit this would either be a asus Fonepad8 which measures 214x120

Or which i would prefer the Asus Memo Pad 8 ME581CL which measures just 3mm more at 213mm x 123mm and this has a much better screen and is 4G neither of which have been released yet but i think it could be closer to the end of this year.

Ive done a few mockups in photoshop of how a 8" screen would look against a Nexus 7 .

I think if the 8" tablet is to big in height to accommodate the 250x120mm gap than the tablet could be angled inwards at the bottom to fit and to avoid any glare.

Would appreciate anny thoughts on the project and if anyone has similar ambitions.

M3 mirrors on my 05 325iT touring

Sorry guys I searched and could not find the info I need. I believe finding the right base plate was the issue. So ... from what I found so far, I should buy M3 mirrors from a coupe and transfer my ribbon motors into the M3 housings, and use the M3 mirror glass on my non-M mirror motor ?? Can I attach the M3 mirrors to my OEM baseplates, or just modify the OEM M3 baseplates to fit my iT ?? Any help or redirection to DIY's would be helpful. Thanks

Thought we could put together a list of car numbers that will be shown on the number boards on your SpecE46. This could help avoid duplication (if that matters). 2001 E46 330i lack of power and rough idle

Hi guys,

Im writing to you, since noone here has an idea what to fix/change in my car to make it run like it should...

After a night, when I start the engine it idles at around 100-200 rpm, knocks, sneezes and produces tons of sounds i cant describe in english :P

After a while [10s] it starts to idle at 800-1000 rpm, but steel it coughs every 3s

Check engine light is on, it says system too lean bank1, bank 2

When you accelerate the car doesn't go smooth, to be honest it rides like a 320i, not a 330...

What I've done so far:

- disa valve checked

- lambdas changed

- got my MAF checked, interchanged with two working cars. The cars run OK on mine, so it doesn't seem to be a MAF problem

- exhaust camshaft position sensor [was a bit better for a moment]

- engine compression is around 12,1 on all cylinders

- fuel pressure 3,1bar

- I have no idea what it's called, but it is responsible for reducing gas pressure in oil compartment... changed new from dealership

Still the car runs like sh*t, makes me pissed

Has anyone of you had similar problems?

We have also a suspect called... Vanos... hope it isn't it

Manual Swap Transmission Variances

Hey guys,

Upon searching and searching with no luck for the past few hours I have decided to start a thread about this and hopefully I can help others out with the same questions that I have. So first and foremost I want to complete a manual swap on my 2005 330ci, I understand that the transmission I am searching for is the ZF S5D-320Z. Now, is there any differences amongst the ZF S5D-320Z transmissions because when I search for used ones on Ebay they have the 7503993 part number but the ads say they are only compatible for 2001-2003 330's. Does that matter or will all ZF S5D-320Z transmissions work for the swap. Now in addition to that, can someone please tell me what the difference is between the BD53 and the BN53 code that comes up next to 330ci on realoem?

Also, to quote neil1138's auto to manual swap "My car used a ZF S5D 320Z THMW, the car I got if from used the exact transmission. The only difference between most of the transmissions you will find is the 4 letter combination at the end, I'm not sure if its a final drive ratio code or something but I didn't want to mess around and experiment." Does the four letter code at the end matter?

Thanks

///AVIN AVANT 2 install

2004 M3 convertible with factory navigation.

I spent time today installing my new AVANT 2 head unit. It took me longer because it turns out someone had been into my car before. So there were wires I had to trace to see where they went and remove a bunch of stuff. I purchased the car in May of 2014 and have slowly been upgrading it here and there. Well I have a 10 hour trip coming up soon and couldn't really stand the stereo system that was in it. The oem headunit had some dead pixels and the sound was rather poor. Well I think I now know why it was poor, all the junk I had to rip out.

Rewind to last night, I started to disassemble the trim and the dash. I found a bunch of stuff I didn't recognize. Some aftermarket internal antenna, an iSimple ipod thingy, some messed up antenna wiring, a Rockford Fosgate amp and bass in the trunk (the amp had some blue wire that was run from the trunk to the front passenger side floor then was just paying there). I knew the amp and enclosure were there but decided to call it a night before physically tracking and removing stuff.

Once I got all that tracked down and taken out I could look at installing the new unit. Once I located the connector in the trunk, ran the wires under the carpet and through the dash I test fired it up. The head unit powered right up. So I pulled out my iphone, paired it with my AVANT 2 and listened to a few tunes via bluetoth. It sounds SO much better.

Tomorrow I will button up the trunk, under the dash and the trim. Then I will put all my pictures together and write a quick DIY in the coming days. So far so good though. I am liking it a lot.

Plus Tommy took good care of me, I ordered it (EASY), it shipped and got delivered (FAST) plus I got an OBD plug in module (FREE). What more can I ask for.

I will be getting a wifi hotspot from T Mobile to keep in the car but in the meantime I will use my home wireless to test everything once I put it all back together.

lowering question

so i ordered the koni adjustables and h&r sport springs for my xi. do I have to get different endlinks? i noticed coilovers come with endlinks so not sure if i need them for springs and shocks? anyone?

WTB E46 M3, 6spd, Stock, $18-25k Range

Hey, guys.

Previous E46 330I owner, looking to upgrade to an M3 for a commute of about 40 miles per week.

Vehicle must be in decent condition, 6-speed is preferred over SMG for maintenance purposes, mileage must be under 100k and maintenance must be up to date. I am not particularly interested in aftermarket performance modifications, and will not pay more than the stock car is worth for the pleasure of driving someone else's beater, unless the mods are particularly tasteful.

Looking to spend as much as $25,000, maybe more if the car is truly what I'm looking for. I live in Southern New Jersey, but am willing to travel, or even fly, for the right vehicle.

I can be reached via PM or through email, at dhummel4th@gmail.com

Thanks.

E46 Sedan 19" Niche Targa, Matte Black, New style

We sold the car...had to take these nice wheels off in order to get the price down to market levels.

There are photos of these wheels on the craigslist link. They were a Christmas present for my son. The tires have 4,000 miles on them, and the car was 4 wheel aligned before mounting them.

These are new wheels made specifically for the e46 sedan. I can email more photos on request. I am in Fresno, but traveling down to San Diego on the 9-10th of September so I can deliver the wheels to I5 locations in So Cal.

Wheels/tires are under warranty...

m54b30 misfire diagnosis process

The purpose of this post is to explain my diagnosis of the misfire problem my car developed. So my 2003 330xi threw a misfire code, and began to idle funny. I drove it home, and began to try to diagnose the problem. My code reader pulled a p1347 code. Misfire with fuel cutoff. I cleared the code, restarted the car, and reproduced the problem. Car was idleing super rough, and would get bad enough it would almost die. I pulled codes again, and this time showed 3 cylinders misfiring. I repeated the process a few more times, and eventually ended up with all 6 cylinders reporting a misfire, and also receiveing a lean fuel mixture code for each bank. Following codes were pulled.

Car background. I just purchased this car about 3k miles ago, and did a bunch of cooling system maintenance on it the other day. Replaced the water pump, thermostat and housing, oil filter tower gasket, coolant temp sensor, radiator hoses, belt pulleys, belts, oil, coolant, etc...

Car was running very well, except for a slight whistle at part throttle. Back to that later.

So my diagnosis process was as follows.

I knew right off after repeatedly pulling codes that the problem was not due to ignition components for one particular cylinder. For it to have rather suddenly gone bad in all cylinders led me to believe the problem stemmed from the air fuel mixture itself, and not the ignition components. (if your dme goes bad, that could provide similar symptoms.)

So I decided to check my fuel pressure. Initially I was thinking that it perhaps was the fuel filter. I had no records from the previous owner, so I have to assume that the filter has not been changed. The car does have a new fuel pump. So I don't have a fuel pressure gauge, but I have a simple air pressure gauge that works fine. I showed 50psi, and did not fall off as idle problem worsened. Looks ok there.

So if it is getting plenty of fuel, and I think the ignition components are ok, the next thing to look at is the air supply. I have experience with turbo cars, and know that any discrepancy between what the dme thinks is going into the car, and what is actually going into the car can cause problems. It was at this point that I remembered my slight whistle at part throttle, and so I googled it, and sure enough, people talk about the lower intake boot cracking. So I started pulling the intake apart, and inspecting the intake boots. The upper boot was showing signs of pending cracks, and low and behold, the lower boot had a pretty serious crack going to the idle control valve. This meant that the engine was pulling in more air that the meter reported, and thus running lean. That explains my codes.

While I was in there, I yanked out my DISA valve, to inspect, and it was toast. I am lucky none of the parts fell into the intake of the car.

I have ordered an upper and lower intake boot, and a German Auto Solutions disa upgrade repair kit. I am no engineer, but that kit looks pretty damn good to me, and for half the price of a disa, I figured I would give it a shot.

Parts should all arrive next week after labor day, and I will install them and report back, but I expect that this will solve my issues.

Any E46 e46 roof rack + 2 bike attachments NY

I have this on my e46 m3, as far as I know it should work with any e46 - prior owner had it on a 4 door 328...

I bought this a couple months back and don't use it as much as I thought, it's the OWM roof rack + 2 OEM bike attachments, the kind you put the bike up with both wheels and hold it from the frame..

I'd like to get 300 for everything and not looking to ship unless the buyer pays for shipping.

Need e46 motor

Motor is bad in my 2001 m3 . Seein if anyone knows about buying a motor or a rebuilt block. Something that's like 3-4000 range. Only had the car a couple months and this is just heart breaking haha

Another ATL noob

Purchased a 2002 325i, 5 speed today. For anyone looking to buy, the "buyer's guide" sticky in the e46 area was INVALUABLE. If you don't use it, or something similar, (insert your deity here) help you with purchasing! The pre-purchase inspection by a local shop was critical as well. All in, with the purchase price as well as repair costs of pre-purchase discoveries, we are in a very competent car for a reasonable price - something that can be maintained for a long time.

First time BMW-owner. Long time Acura/ Honda owner, with an Infiniti sprinkled in there, currently with a 2000 Miata for fun. I have been intrigued by BMWs for a long time. The catalyst for purchasing this particular model is that, at the price point and options, these e46 series are really good cars for new drivers, and we will have one in our house soon. Stability control was an absolute must for me, and a manual transmission was a definite plus. So, the e39/e46 BMWs were a natural choice - focused on the 525i / 325i.

Will post pics later - this forum has already been a huge help - looking forward to being part of the community!

316i 1999 Consumption

Hi guys . Is my consumption normal ? I mean , yes, i've seen in the manual it has about 12l/100km in city , but still ... its so much for just 105 hp

worn keys

I cant get my key to work in the ignition consistently. I have to do alot of jiggling to get to work and it takes like five minutes. I don't want to break it but I dont want to pay $300 for a new key either. Someone looked at the key and told me it was worn. I mean it is a 1998 car and I believe its the original key. Can a locksmith do replace it. I know they have these chips in them so I wasn't sure. It also won't work on the car doors or trunk anymore so I park it in my garage.

Any BMW FS: Turner Motorsport Rear Adjustable Camber Arms

Hey Everyone,

I've got a set of semi used turner rear camber arms. They were put on the car at 38k miles and just taken off at 41k miles. They are very easy to adjust, no more than 10min needed to adjust both sides. These are perfect for anyone who's stanced and needs to run greater than -3 camber or anyone who tracks their car on weekends and needs quick camber adjustments. These are made of high quality and will not rust or seize compared to cheap ebay camber arms.

Turner offers the rod-end for racing or bushing end for street performance.

Mine are the bushing style.

Each component of the camber arms is replaceable if you were to ever damage them or just want to switch over to the rod-end style.

Price: $260 Picked up

Pics will be up later today.

M3 not getting enough fuel to start

Been reading thru the whole post and found some good info but still need help. I have an 04 6MT maintained by previous owners but meticulously by me since i've owned it and it just stalled and wont start back. After a few tries it starts but the rpm stays at 500 or less and its struggling to keep up then after 5 to 10 seconds even with me giving it gas it shuts off. The only code i keep getting is fuel pump relay. Went to the dealer and bought a new one and still the same thing happens along with the same code. Car currently has 72000 miles. Fuel filter was changed at 65000. What else could be wrong why i'm still getting a fuel pump relay error.

Weird acceleration issue

This doesn't happen often but usually occurs on a hot summer day especially in traffic, usually only in 1st or 2nd gear. I'll clutch in, get in gear, clutch out, accelerate as normal and for no reason the car will take a nose dive (think a 16 yo learning to drive stick). When I come to a stop the rpms will rise by about 200 and come down then the "instant mpg" needle will bounce as well. More pronounced with the ac due to heavier load I assume. Does this sound like a maf or tps issue? MIL is off, no internal fault

E46 Starting Issues..

Hello!

I am the proud owner of a 2000 BMW 323i. The car has been giving me some trouble recently and I am hoping to figure out my issue.

Symptoms:

Car will start occasionally, may take 3-10 tries, but it will usually start (less likely to start if the car is warm)

I can hear the starter spinning every time, but only occasionally will it engage.

When the starter "engages", the car has no trouble starting right up.

After some research on this forum, I am thinking it is the starter solenoid. I am on a budget and would like to only change the starter if necessary. If I buy a new starter, will it come with a solenoid? I hope to get this car back on the road before school starts!

Thank you for your help

Tonneau Cover Does Not Close All the Way

My tonneau cover on the driver's side does not close all the way when the top is down. Pics are below.

I opened and closed the top several times and do not see any obstructions. Also, my latch seems to be open and functioning properly, and the Bowden cable is in place. I suspect (although not sure) that the tension on the Bowden cable needs tightening so that it pulls the latch closed and tight.

Does my theory make sense? Does anyone know how to adjust the tension on the Bowden cable?

Well, it has been 20 years since my last BMW. The last one was a 733i Euro sedan. Prior to that I had a 1974 Bavaria and a 1972 Bavaria. My first BMW was a 1967 1600 Sedan one of the first in the USA. I traded in a Porshe 356B for it. Now I own a 2003 BMW M3 Convertible with 175000 miles on it. Just as long as I can get 30000 more miles on this Bimmer I will be happy. Had some rear end work done and the oil changed. It runs strong and should last a long time.....

8th Annual M-Car Day @ Griot's Garage, Sept. 7, 2014

M-Car Day

Sunday, September 7

10:30 AM – 2:00 PM

Griot’s Garage, Tacoma, WA

Last year’s M-Car Day was a lot of fun, so we’re doing it again! M Car Day is the one and only day in the year here in the PNW when M Cars owners get together to celebrate and appreciate all of the wonderful BMW M Cars that have thrilled us over the years.

Please mark Sunday, September 7 for a very special day of camaraderie to celebrate all things rated M. Our hosts will be Griot’s Garage at their new flagship facility in Tacoma. Last year saw 200+ M Cars in attendance! This will be the 8th Annual M-Car Day to celebrate all of the wonderful BMW M Cars that have thrilled us over the years.

This event is FREE to attend!

Thanks to our sponsors: BMW Northwest, Griot's Garage and Haury's Lake City Collision, 425 Motorsports and SouthLake Europeans

Please plan to roll in between 10:30 AM – 11:00 AM so we can direct you to the appropriate section to park your M car. We’ll park the M-cars by E chassis type, so owners can compare notes on common maintenance issues and modifications. We’ll also have a section for regular chassis that have had M Power engine transplants. So S52 E30s and S14 2002s are welcome!

Here is a rough agenda for the day:

Griot’s Garage will provide each M Car owner in attendance with a free Car Care Product sample at registration. There will also be discounts in the store, so bring your shopping list.

Around 11:00 AM a Griot’s Garage car care specialist will pick a lucky car from the attendees for a car care demo in their garage.

We’ll have a food vendor on site for lunch. Bring cash and your appetite, yum!

After lunch, we’ll have the always popular raffle for some great prizes!

And for the second year in a row, we'll have a very special commemorative shirt with a unique design for the event. Really cool shirt again this year. Last year, the shirts sold out in about an hour so we printed a few more this year. Still come out early if you want to get one. Price is still a screaming deal at $15.

See you there!

Nicolas

Vinyl wrap question

Can anyone provide insight on vinyl wrapping an E46 and how it holds up in NNJ winter weather?

My black sapphire sedan has some paint issues. Paint correction will help but I've been finding areas where touch up has been used and not in a good way since you can tell its there obviously. Minor dings, one "scratch" on the trunk and some paint cracking and minor damage to the rear bumper.

I was looking at a vinyl wrap as way to spruce up the car before I go full bore on a respray on the car.

Took Focus ST for Quick Spin

Quick impressions:

Overall, very nice car.

Definitely quick, if obviously not M3 (my current ride and comparison point). More turbo-torquey than screamer. NVH was definitely 4-banger class than ethereal I6 class, though not outright harsh or objectionable.

Steering was quick, tight and deadish in feel. Definitely some torque steer, but reasonable and a reminder of FWD.

Interior: nice, modern, full of digigadgetry and honestly midscale. Not M3 lux, but duh.

Ride was firm but refined, pretty much on par with the M3.

Anyways, quick spin review. Very nice car and I can understand the buzz, kind of a neo-muscle car in a 21st century paradigm. Interested in trying the Fiesta ST...

E46 M3 convertible 2002 draining battery

I'm really hoping someone can help me. I have an E46 M3 convertible 2002 which keeps draining it's battery. We've replaced the battery twice in 2 months of owning her. I always open and close roof with engine running, turn off all electrical a (radio/ sat nav system) but if I don't use her for a week when I go to start her there's nothing happening, nothing at all - not even a slow turn over of the engine. Any ideas gratefully received. Thanks in advance!! :-)

Lost Bluetooth sound - but everything else works

I have a 2005 325 Ci with integrated OEM bluetooth. It's nothing fancy (voice etc) but gets the job done, and loads contacts on the radio. Works (worked) fine. My radio is the CD Business model, non HK, with MP3 support

At some point, I got tired of not knowing what song was playing exactly, so started looking for options, and ended up purchasing the Grom USB2 device. Opted for the behind the radio install.

Completed the install, and the grom unit was working fine, with text support on the radio. The sound is crisp, never hanging or crashing.

And then, I discovered I had no sound from the phone Bluetooth. :banghead:

So, I decided to reverse the process, uninstall the Grom, removed the 10 pin harness from the back of the radio, and returned both of the 10pin connectors I had. I also disconnected the green "bus" wire, just to be safe.

Still no sound. :banghead: x 2

The Bluetooth connects, pairs, allows me to make phone calls, on calling the phone mutes, but no sound comes out of the car speakers. The microphone works, as on the other side of the line they can hear me. Only that I cant hear them.

My understanding is, from the two connectors (A, B)

http://ift.tt/VQWsC7

(A) drives the CD changer, and is where Grom is plugged. It also appears to have some Tel Audio pins. Likely unplugging them created the problem

(B) in my case has only 3 cables attached, and is wired for the aux input

Question - how do I get the Bluetooth sound back? Did connecting the Grom burnt something?

I tried a battery reset (10 seconds) and didnt work. Should I go for a longer reset?

How do I troubleshoot the OEM Bluetooth?

I'm in contact with Grom support, but i believe they may not know how to troubleshoot the BMW OEM Bluetooth. On the other hand, I can bet many of the forum members are experts

Once hopefully i fix the Bluetooth, is it possible to do a behind the radio Grom install with an OEM Bluetooth? I'm starting to suspect not.

E46 m57 330d engine swap differences

Hi all,

As a newbie I just thought I'd post a bit of info which may be helpful if you have to fit a replacement m57 engine in your e46.

I just bought a replacement used engine from a 530d saloon to fit my 330d touring and discovered the following differences.

1) Both engines are 2000 year and m57d30

2) The 5 series engine needed the block drilled and tapped for one of the engine mounts to transfer from the 3 series car.

3) the engine wiring harnesses are different as the 5 series is routed off the back of head, and the 3 series off the side.

4) the front engine lifting eye needs changing otherwise it fouls the main vacuum servo pipe.

5) dipstick tubes are different.

6) the alternators between 3 and 5 series differ with a two pin connection on one and three pin on the other.

7) inlet manifolds were different in my case with no swirl flaps or actuators on the 5 series, but needed both on the 3.

That's about all.

Hope it helps someone.

E46 Vs. E39 Radiator Support Removal

Are they similar, or different? I've got a nice little bend on my e46's radiator support that I bought at the beginning of this year, and am going to replace it at some point. I also found this video that shows how to DIY the e39 radiator support, and was wondering if they are the same procedure.

California rules

Yesterday I drove my convertible to the beach and had breakfast, then walked the beach for a couple of hours. Had a cocktail, played in the water, watched people. Drove to a different beach after that and watched my gf's bro surf.

Back to the house, got the bikes, rode to a third beach for a street festival. Ate fantastic, healthy food and had another cocktail, rode home and talked about the day before crashing.

Today I think I'll shop for a beach scooter. I like the way the Yamaha Zuma looks.

Hello from Tbilisi

I am an Expat engineer from the US Pacific Northwest Tricities WA area working in Tbilisi Georgia (FSU) on a pipeline project. I need a car for the family so I picked up a local used euro 2004 325i with 87K miles. This is my second BMW ownership. Back in 1974 when I was living and working in PA above Philly I bought a 74 pastel blue 2002. It was a great experience, especially Rt 81 north and south bound. It was a wonderful car for many years. Back then it wore Michelin XAS tires, which you can't get now days. But I chose to leave the ranks of Bimmer owners and get back into American iron for 30 years after the children came along. But last month I leased a E90X drive 320d while on vacation in Turkey and had an awesome epiphany. So I couldn't wait to get my hands on a BMW sedan once more as a daily driver. But I must tell you that 320d was an amazing automobile, very powerful, not a hint of being a diesel, instant starting and a terrrifc handling machine in the hills and mountains around Bodrum. So I am back in the Roundel fold once again and delighted to be a BMW owner one more time. :hi:

This is a great website too.

Back seat of E46 coupe vs. M235i?

Hey guys,

I am considering the M235i, but not at test drive stage yet.

The E46 coupe back seat has been more than fine for people including myself, when I let my buddy and 6'7" friend in the passenger seat to Vegas from SF bay area I sat in the back for many hours (I am 6'2").

Anyone know how the M235i compares?

What does it sound like? Catted Headers to straight pipes

Good morning,

I've had the muffler delete for about a year now and I'd like to get a little more noise out of my exhaust. I've heard what catless headers to straight pipes sounds like but unfortunately I can not find what stock headers to straight pipe (both resonators removed and no rear muffler) sounds like. If someone has a video or has this set up, I'd appreciate your input!

Car: 2001 330ci

* I would not like your input if you hate the muffler delete, think I should buy a real exhaust etc.

mass air flow sensor issue

so, the radiator was bad in my 2001 E46 330ci. While changing the radiator I dropped my mass air flow sensor and broke it. After replacing the radiator and putting everything back together I purchased a used working mass air flow sensor for my car. when I plugged it in everything was fine. After 10 minutes of driving I got trouble code P0175. After that, I went back to the person that I purchased the mass airflow sensor from and exchanged it for a different one. Now I am getting code P0102. And the car has trouble starting. I started up and it runs for 2 seconds and dies. Will only stay running if I start the car and immediately push on the gas and rev the engine. Then I can shut it off and start it. but I still get the code. Also I cannot push on the brake and the gas at the same time and my cruise control does not work. Everything worked 100% perfectly before I originally damaged the mass airflow sensor. Any ideas what the problem could be?

Thanks

Bosal or Magnaflow Catalytic Converter?

Hi all, I just got a quote from the dealer to replace my cats - $4K... No way.

So looking online I found Magnaflow cats for $1141 Shipped.

Bosal cats are $681 shipped. There is quite a price difference and i've heard good things about the magnaflows but nothing about Bosal.

Has anyone had any experience with Bosal Cats?

What do look if I want to boost my HID?

Hey all,

I currently run 55w hid with 5000k on it and I realize my hid is dimmer than other cars on the street.

Yes I do run xenon with projectors (fx-r) without wiring harness.

My voltage reading is 14.4v when the engine is on and I don't know what to look after all.

Changed HID ballast, bulbs. It all stays the same.

Always little greenish.

Do you have any idea what makes my light greenish?

Tried 3 different hid bulbs and ballast but still greenish. (5000k)

sound when shifting gears BMW e46

HI

I have a BMW E46 from 1998 a 318i 1.9.

When I change gears a "Dunk" sound appears from the gearbox, i have changed the propshaft and clutch but it did not help. Have also tried with another gearbox but the same sound is still there.

The sound occurs both when I switch in and out of gear, it must also be said that I have tried to remove the drive shaft (cardan) and then I took it up on the lift and tried to change gear as normal and the sound is still there, so it has nothing to do with the difference.

Have also tried with another slave cylinder and it did not help.?

Weird starting problem help needed

Sometimes when I go to start my car in mid crank it will make a large thud noise as if something has got stuck. My question is could a weak battery cause this to happen? Or is it something else causing it to get stuck in mid crank? Couldn't find anything while researching for this problem

eml dsc brake light help!

Ok well to start off I'm new to working with bmws. I went to the gas station after replacing a few heater hoses and after about a min of driving the the brake light and dsc light light up and I heard a beep. The car drove fine so I figured it was a combination of codes that just haven't been cleared. Well after filling up I started the car and the two lights were up and the eml light lit up. It would idle anywhere from 800 -1200 rpms and wouldn't allow me to give it gas at all I managed to get it home and saw the throttle position reset where you turn the key for 10 sec to position one then off for 10 sec and start. I did that after cleaning the throttle body with cleaner and it started right up and good to go. Well I headed to the parts store to get the codes reset and after that started it up and once again the 3 lights are lit with the car doing the same thing. I tried the reset and it didn't work.

I'm assuming the beeping after running for a min would help break it down, I've seen a lot of post where the light comes on while driving mine only does it when it's started or atleast the 2 times the light has come on.

I know it's long but wanted to give the entire story and as much info as possible. I plan on doing the work myself just wanna make sure I have a good idea what part it is before replacing it.

thanks in advance!!

question for investment gurus

So, BLUF is this: right now, I have three 401k accounts. Vanguard from when I worked for GEICO, TSP for military, TSP for government civilian. Should I roll these all into one/two accounts?

Details:

Worked for GEICO for 4.99 years, have a 401k with them than no longer gains any contributions, but is making an ok amount of money. 5 year gains in the account are around 15%, fund fee is .08%. I'm 80% vested in this, so it will cost me a few thousand dollars to pull my money from here.

Have invested in military TSP for years, no matching contributions on this, but I put 10% of my monthly national guard check into here. Asset distribution is the same as my civilian TSP.

Now investing monthly 5% plus matching funds into TSP (maxed on matching) for a total of 10% per month. Fund fee on TSP has been hovering around .029% for several years now, so it's cheaper than Vanguard, and the performance over the past few years has been similar if not a few points higher.

I'm planning on 401k money, plus at least a military pension for retirement income, possibly a civilian pension if I stay with the government that long.

I think it's worth it for me to pull the money out of Vanguard, since the fund fee is higher and I'm no longer making contributions there, but I'm not entirely sure. I'm 31 right now, so I figure I'd have plenty of time to make up the money I would lose that I'm not vested in.

I'm pretty sure it's worth it to keep the military account, as the funds are identical to the civilian account, it's just another source of money going in there.

TSP allocation is currently about 50% common stock, 25% small cap, 25% international fund, same across both accounts.

So, questions:

-Should I keep the Vanguard account open, or roll it over to my civilian TSP?

-Should I keep two separate TSP accounts open, or just up my contribution from my civilian paycheck to account for not investing the money from the military paycheck?

-Is it worth it to close the Vanguard account just for the convenience of having all my money under the same umbrella?

Reconditioning leather help

It gets pretty hot where I live and unfortunately I can't garage keep my car so I have a few concerns/questions I guess.

I have a 2001 330ci coupe in alpine white with a full m3 black nappa swap.

I noticed the upper part of the back seat, right under the rear glass, is very hard and it is the only place in the entire car where the leather feels like this.

I am trying some neats foot oil and the plastic bag method right now to see if it softens up and I was wondering if this was the best method.

Any tips or suggestions would be great.

Peake code 20c279C - thermostat

It was a little cooler than normal this morning. I drove 1mi to daycare and shut the car off. When I got back in the car to leave daycare, SES light came on immediately and threw this code. I reset the SES light and it did not come back on during the rest of my commute. Car stayed at normal temps per dashboard needle. Will monitor temps via OBC on the way home today.

Code description: "Mapped thermostat cooling: control". Searching tells me the electric heating element in the t-stat has probably gone bad. In the Peake book, this code is right after 279B for "Mapped thermostat cooling: mechanical"

What's the distinction between the "control" and "mechanical" versions of this thermostat code? Is it safe to drive?

Relevant service history: At about 80k, I noticed the original t-stat was stuck open but threw no codes. Original t-stat (and rest of cooling system) was replaced with Genuine BMW parts at about 90k. Car now has 153k.

BMW Motorsport News Around the World

”bmw motorsport news”

Whether in the DTM, the United SportsCar Championship, or countless other championships: week after week BMW teams and drivers around the world do battle for points, victories and titles. Away from the track too, members of the large BMW Motorsport family around the world are also creating headlines. The “BMW Motorsport News” allows us to regularly summarise all the action for you in a compact and informative manner. This way, you are always up to speed.

DTM: Heikki Kovalainen tests for BMW at the Lausitzring.

This week, the BMW DTM teams head to the Lausitzring (DE), where they will undertake tests with the BMW M4 DTM from Monday to Thursday. The tests will focus on the set-up of the car, with an eye on the upcoming DTM race at this circuit on 14th September. On one of the four days, the BMW DTM drivers will be joined by ex-Formula One driver Heikki Kovalainen (FI). He has 111 Formula One Grands Prix under his belt, and will use the opportunity at the Lausitzring to gain an impression of the BMW M4 DTM.

Blancpain Sprint Series: BMW Sports Trophy Team Schubert wins at the Slovakia Ring, no luck for Zanardi.

The BMW Sport Trophy teams finished one-two at the fourth round of the Blancpain Sprint Series at the Slovakia Ring near Bratislava (SK). Thomas Jäger (AT) and Dominik Baumann (AT) of BMW Sports Trophy Team Schubert came home first in Sunday’s main race at the wheel of a BMW Z4 GT3. They produced an impressive fightback to claim their first victory in this series: problems during Saturday’s qualifying meant they started the main race from down in 19th on the grid. In a thrilling finale, they came through in the final minutes of the race to finish ahead of Caca Bueno (BR) and Sergio Jimenez (BR) of BMW Sports Trophy Team Brazil, who crossed the finish line second at the end of the one-hour race. Their team-mates Matheus Stumpf (BR) and Valdeno Brito Filho (BR) were unlucky and crashed out of the main race after a collision at the start, having previously climbed from 17th on the grid to finish fourth in the qualifying race. Luck also deserted BMW works driver Alessandro Zanardi (IT): his BMW Z4 GT3 was also hit by another car shortly after the start, and was so badly damaged that he was forced to retire after just one lap. His ROAL Motorsport team-mates Stefano Colombo (IT) and David Fumanelli (IT) came home 13th at the end of a difficult race.

BMW Motorsport Juniors: second outing on the Nordschleife.

BMW Motorsport Juniors Jake Hughes (GB), Jesse Krohn (FI) and Alexander Mies (DE) overcame miserable conditions to successfully complete their second race in the BMW M235i Racing at the 6-hour race in the VLN Endurance Championship, which took place at the Nürburgring-Nordschleife (DE). After 31 laps, the number 152 car crossed the finish line in 58th place. “On their second outing, our Juniors once again had to cope with unsettled weather, and they again did a very good job of overcoming this challenge,” said head instructor Dirk Adorf (DE). The BMW Motorsport Juniors shared the cockpit with Michela Cerruti (IT). She usually races in a BMW Z4 GT3 for ROAL Motorsport in the Blancpain Endurance Series. However, the Italian used the VLN race to get her first taste of the Nordschleife in the BMW M235i Racing. “I was very excited about my first Nordschleife experience,” said Cerruti. “I had every possible weather condition over the course of the race, so I think I experienced the real Nordschleife.” As well as the circuit, the Italian also got to know the car and the BMW Motorsport Juniors. “Congratulations to BMW Motorsport on the Juniors they have selected,” she said. “They are all very good drivers, and nice guys too. They made me feel very welcome.”

BMW M235i Racing Cup: Adrenalin Motorsport wins the highlight of the season.

Two weeks after failing to finish at the sixth round of the VLN Endurance Championship, Daniel Zils (DE), Norbert Fischer (DE) and Uwe Ebertz (DE) pulled off an important success in the race for the Drivers’ Championship in the BMW M235i Racing Cup class. They won their class and finished an outstanding 14th overall in the number 667 BMW M235i Racing at the highlight of the VLN season, the Opel 6h ADAC Ruhr-Pokal-Rennen. The Adrenalin Motorsport trio won the class, finishing ahead of Matias Henkola (FI), Nico Marvin Monien (DE) and Florian Gruber (DE) of the MBP Racing team, with Max Partl (DE) and Jörg Weidinger (DE) of Scheid-Partl Motorsport coming home third. Victory sees Zils, Fischer and Ebertz extend their lead in the Drivers’ Championship. Adrenalin Motorsport continues to lead the Team competition.

VLN: Walkenhorst Motorsport lands a BMW Z4 GT3 in the top six.

The 6-hour race in the VLN Endurance Championship at the Nürburgring-Nordschleife (DE) proved to be very successful for the Walkenhorst Motorsport team. Niclas Kentenich (DE), Henry Walkenhorst (DE), Peter Posavac (DE) and Anders Buchardt (NO) finished sixth overall in the number 36 BMW Z4 GT3. The second Walkenhorst car, number 35, came home 12th. The team also finished third in the SP9 class to claim a place on the podium. Rolf Derscheid (DE) and Michael Flehmer (DE) finished runners-up in the V4 class in their BMW 325i. In doing so, they successfully defended their lead in the overall VLN standings. In total, BMW drivers claimed seven class victories at the seventh round of the season.

CTSCC in Virginia: BMW on the podium in the ST class.

In Saturday’s Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge at Virginia Raceway International (US) Terry Borcheller (US) and Mike LaMarra (US), in the Burton Racing BMW 128i, were on the Street Tuner podium after finishing third. In the Grand Sport class the Fall-Line Motorsport BMW M3 of John Edwards (US) and Trent Hindman (US) could only finish 12th due to technical problems. The top-finishing BMW M3 was the Turner Motorsport car of Tom Kimber-Smith (GB) and Michael Marsal (US) in sixth.

Rough Idle, will I ever have a month without an issue?

Hi Guys,

I have a problem with a rough / bounce idle when the engine is warm on my 2003 325ci. I have read through the forums and tried some of the suggestions within. To date I have done the following trying to fix this:

1. Removed and checked DISA, all seems fine good springy return and the vaccum holds the flap.

2. Checked upper and lower intake boots for splits, no problems

3. Removed ICV cleaned and reattached.

I have observed the following:

1. white smoke or steam coming from the rear left hand side of the engine bay (cabin filter tray removed)

2. Rushing air noise from around the inlet manifold.

3. Oil being lost maybe 1 litre every 6 weeks.

4. small oil puddles in the cam cover around the spark plug holes (clean oil, maybe the previous owner missed the filler hole)

I am still going to try the following:

1. Replace DISA O-ring.

2. replace crystalied hose on the fuel vaccum line from "F" fitting on upper intake boot.

I have had good advise from you kind chaps before and any help on this issue would be fantastic.

My M-Series Touring

Hi everyone, thought it might be time to start a thread about my wagon . .

I bought it a few months ago after extensive searching (these wagons are very rare here in New Zealand)

Anyway, got it for a bargain, only because of the rather high miles. When purchased, it had these ridiculous 18" rims on it (first pic) - so I got some 17" m-sports.

I have replaced the indicators, and front bumper . . I also have satin kidneys, but waiting till I have the bonnet repainted

2011 BMW M3 - Good buy? Need Advice.

Hey Guys, I hope I am posting in the right sections but if not I apologize. I am very interested in purchasing the m3 listed below and I would like some feedback from experienced members. I am getting BMW to do a thorough inspection on the car to make sure the frame is good and everything was fixed when it was recked. Due to it being a salvaged title.

I would like to sale the current rims and replace them with the factory oem black competitive rims. Does anyone know what the Work Meister S1 2 piece wheels are worth?

Around 15k miles.

I can get it for about 37k.

thanks for the feedback, Drew.

Does anyone have a set of E38 fitment chrome M-parallels?

I still have about a month until I can pay for them, but I figured I'd start asking around now.

Thanks!
