Coolant Bleeding Issue?

Hello everyone,

I've been following this forum for over a year now ever since I got my 323i e46. Lately I have been trouble bleeding the coolant system after replacing upper/lower radiator hoses, expansion tank and cap and lower expansion tank hose. My lower expansion tank hose began to leak like crazy and so I decided to replace the hoses and expansion tank since I was there. I realise there is countless threads on this very topic but no matter what I do, there seems to be still air in the system (or at least I believe it is air). I've massaged hoses, set blower to low and 91 degrees and poured coolant slowly, filled the coolant up to the bleeder hole, but all to no avail. Whenever I go take a quick drive or just idling to heat up the engine to its ideal temperature, the needle beings to climb to the red and I shut off the engine at the 1/4 mark to prevent any damage. Am I following these guides wrong or could there be a failing part that I need to replace?

I should also mention that my brother used cheap coolant + tap water and I drained the radiator after the lower expansion hose began to leak but other than that I had no issues with my cooling system in the past. Is it possible to have enough bad coolant that there is some left over after I drained it out? When I look in the expansion tank, the fluid seems to be clean.

Need info on power steering please

I have a 2000 bmw 328ci. My belt broke and when I looked at it I noticed the bolts for the power steering were gone insept for 1. Their different sizes so I couldn't use the bolt I had to get new ones. Does anyone know what size bolts I need??

Broken connector

Opened up dash and removed radio... You all know that connector that you should have to "slide up and THEN pull out"? Well a previous owner seems to have broken the "slide up" part. Can I buy this plug from a BMW dealer? Any idea on how to figure out part #? I have a "pin removal kit" that has inserts so I can move the sockets over from broken plug to new plug. If I can buy a new plug...

Finally opened door! Need new actuator (anyone ever replace this / I have a ?)

I noticed at least on ebay of the 56 they have for the e46 sedan the Front/Driver side which I need is MUCH more expensive. Does anyone know why? Is there anything special one needs to do to replace this besides swap with the 3 Hex bolts?

Thanks in advance.

Interchangible wheels

Will the 17" wheel/tires from a 2002 330xi fit on a 2011 328i S-drive? I'm trading in my faithful beast and I'd like to transfer my full-sized spare wheel/tire to the 2011. I hate run-flats and will replace them at the earliest opportunity. Run-flats are not suitable in NYC as they will blister when hitting the 1st nasty pothole. At $250+ each, it gets ridiculous.

Tire pressure monitor

My red tire pressure monitor light came on so I checked all the tires. One of them was half of what it was supposed to be so I filled it to spec and it still hasn't gone away. It's been like 2 weeks and I have drivin it like 100 miles. I also tried restarting everything by disconnecting the battery for a few hours but that didn't work. Any ideas !?

Winter wheel/tyre setup

Hi all,

I've got a BMW 318 Sport with MV1 style alloy wheels, I'm not sure of the size of the tyres, all I know is that they are a staggered fitment with wider rears.

Living in the UK we aren't certain to get snow each year, but I would like to get something in place ready if we do.

What is the best idea, should I just get two rear MV1s and get some snow tyres fitted, or is it better to get narrower wheels all round?

Also which tyres are recommended for use in snow, I saw the Michelin Alpines get good reviews but they aren't cheap!

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

Having a hard time finding the part number for the seal that blocks air from moving over the top of the A/C condenser instead of through it. Mine is cracked and falling apart. Looked on many realoem diagrams, but maybe I missed it?

It's come time for me to let go of my 323i. It's been an amazing car. For the last 10 years it's been at my parent's house where I spend most weekends. I would normally take my daily driver there on the weekends and drive the 323i. Yes, this became the car I would drive to church every weekend. My parents have moved, so it's time for to let go.

The car has been maintained very well. As most of you know, I've worked on hundreds of your cars since 2003 and you have seen the attention to detail. Having spent time working at many shops, I've always had the right equipment and the right mechanics to keep it perfectly maintained. At 110k miles, I did the standard-every-60k maintenance (fluids, radiator, expansion tank, water pump, belts, hoses, lines, etc). The car hasn't seen salt since 2005 and has never had drinks or food in it. It also comes w/ most original pieces (bumpers, wheels, lights, etc) if the buyer wants it.

Reverse lights keep blowing fuse...any ideas why?

I have a 2001 325ci I just acquired that have the OEM red/clear taillights with all new bulbs from the dealership but for some reason the reverse light fuse keeps blowing. The pigtail part of the harness was checked. No loose wires or burnt grounds. I even called the dealership and the 2001 325Ci's were not apart of the recall. The harnesses have never been cut or tapped into. All other parts of the taillights work perfect. I thought it was because I tried to use LED bulbs so I took them out and replaced with the oem stock bulbs and replaced the fuse and it worked fine for a couple days but then blew again. All bulbs good. Any ideas what could be causing this?

Is dealer brake bleeding required after Booster replacement

I'm planning on replacing my brake booster and have read conflicting stories on bleeding the system. Some say they can not get the system bled.. while others say the dealer needs to service this with GT-1 machine. While others say typical bleeding with Motive bleeder. The manual says dealer service also. Has anyone actually taken it to the dealer after replacing the brake booster/master cylinder them selves.??

Front differential input shaft seal help please

Good day, I am in the process of replacing my input seal on the front differential of my 2002 330 xi. I'm ready to take off the 30 mm nut but need to get the locking washer off first which shouldn't be a problem. My question is when I replace the nut with the new locking washer how will I get my socket in to tighten the nut back down. Seems like socket has the same diameter as the walls on the washer. Thanks.

Hi, from Portugal

Hi there.

I'm Ruben, from Portugal, and i'm currently driving a E46 320d.

Bought it a few months ago, after several checks i see now that it was a well kept car, with relatively low km over 14 years. Now going on 197000 km.

It came to me pretty much as basic, only a few extras, but i made it my own project, and i am now installing a lot more extras, always keeping a oem look.

I used as guide a lot of posts from this forum. Hope i can contribute too ;)

First E46 crash, the horror.

Hey all I have this car for 2 months now almost and my first crash is a fact. I hit another car with the left side and lets just say that the other car is much worse than my baby.

The real work

From what I can see is that I need a new hood, front side left panel, front bumper, new headlight (with cover strip) and turn indicator I have no clue about the fog lights. The left wheel seems to be fine as there seems to be no play with it and the engine seems to start fine just that the computer says that the left front lights are messing up, yea I wonder why too :hmm:. All of these parts are supposed to be in orientblau as so is the car. Of course getting all of this is easier than putting it all back on, because I don't have a clue about how the frame is and how the mounting points are. I would like some advice about this matter and how to get it all up again.

And then to think that my baby was getting her fluids and all flushed and renewed this Monday  I didn't even had the chance to install my HID projectors and angel eyes God really works in mysterious ways.

The pictures are really vague as my S5 messed up the picture quality (I have no idea why) The pictures:

Just discovered my E46 has a first aid kit..with a condom?

I was cleaning under the car and discovered a hidden compartment that houses a first aid kit. Pretty damn cool. Did all E46 come with one? Also I believe that the E39 was not even an option. Anyway, I opened it and found a condom in there. I am sure this was not part of the kit, or is it

2015 plans and builds

What does everyone have planned for the coming year? build, car, class, organization, schedule, etc.?

Vert Suspension Help : Restoring to stock or more comfy ride

Hi Guys,

Its been a while, but i need some help. Im trying to help a buddy out who just got a used 330 convertible (2001, 162k km), as with all used bmw it requires some work. While i was able to help fix a lot of common issues, i just need help with the suspension. I feel like the ride is too hard and can feel almost all the imperfections in the road - and not through the steering. Installed new tires yesterday while its slightly more comfortable - still a bit harsh over irregular road surfaces.

Now our aim is to get a ride level similar or close to that of my vehicle (330i sedan non sport suspension), while i did a search on this and other forums most of the discussion involved lowering the car even further or making it stiffer than stock. We are trying to go the opposite way. So here are my questions:

1. Sport suspension: When i do an options search it tells me the car is equipped with S226A, now as i have never driven an e46 with sport suspension i have no idea what it feels like - but i dont imagine it being too stiff. the front struts look stock, so how should it feel?

2. Strut/Shocks/Springs option: Not sure if the PO had made any modifications, but for someone who is looking for a more comfortable ride over the harsh streets out here, what combination would you recommend for the most comfy ride ? Keep in mind that this car will primarily be used as a daily driver on not so smooth roads.

3. Non sport Struts + springs : Is it possible to install non-sport struts and springs on a vehicle equipped with sport suspension (even if it raises the car a bit) ?

4. Stock Springs : How long do factory sport springs usually last? I read somewhere around 200k - is this true?

Other than struts & springs changing what other component could drastically improve drive quality?

I just dont know where to start or how to check for worn suspension.

Thanks.

Vibration possible due to driveshaft joint.. Buying a used driveshaft

Hey guys, been chasing a vibration in the XI for a while now that has this odd vibration at around 1st/2nd gear while accelerating. My car is a 02 330XI, ~136k

After investigating and replacing numerous things the vibration is still there, the item that helped reduce it the most was my transmission bushing. Now after reading and searching online I keep coming across where people are saying that it could be the rear driveshaft joint is seized. I stumbled across a wrecked 325XI, with 75k on it and asked about the driveshaft on this unit.

Now my question is, how can I inspect this to see whether or not the driveshaft would be good in this unit? To my understanding, these joints are not replaceable as they are welded in, but then I also keep people saying buying a rebuild unit.. Well what I don't understand is how can you buy a rebuild unit if the joints are not serviceable?

I've replaced my guibo, CSB, all axles were repacked, one was even replaced (OEM). Transmission bushing, RTABs, VANOS, plugs, VCG, CCV, checked the engine mounts and they are rock solid. Tried 3 different set of tires and it's still there. Next thing was going to be the 4 rear ball joints.

How likely is it that I do have a seized joint in my rear driveshaft? What else could I check on this to see where this vibration could be coming from?

Selling a rear tire from my dad's 330ci. It's in great condition. He's picky about his car and blew out his other tire so he replaced both. Hoping to get about $160 OBO. Located in corona.

Blower will not turn off

So I changed my blower fsr last week and it has been doing great. I got a coolant low light when running the heat so I topped the coolant off. I wanted to cycle the coolant and drove down to autozone to get a tool when I went to turn the heat off the blower stayed on even with the auto climate control off. So u turned the car off and it still stayed on. I ended up having to pull the fuse to turn it off. Other than a bad fsr what could be the issue? Thanks in advanced. Btw a search of the forum turned up nothing

Change Differential gear ratio

Question is 2 part....

Let's take a sample car, 330i. One is auto one is manual. Diff gear is 3.38 on auto and 2.93 on manual. I'm deducing this because of the addition gear in the manual set up. Now I swaped a quaife 4.10 LSD in the auto but have converted to manual, so what would my new gear ratio be?:hmm: I went from stock sp c to 4.10 just from changing the diff so in assuming my Quaife has a different ration obviously.

Next....it is my goal to get my ratio closer to 3.38 while maintaining my LSD. Can I do this by simply swapping the ring and pinion gears? How can I calculate if I'm not using the stock diff?

misfire cyl 5 troubles

Just yesterday I warned my baby up, took her for a drive, then placed her in park. after a minute or two, she began idling very roughly. It was obvious this was not normal. I quickly shut the car off, waited a minute, then started her back up. She was back to normal!

After scratching my head and having the car in park for about 5 more minutes, she began idling rough again... I then proceeded to drive up to my nearest auto parts store to borrow a code reader.

These are the codes I got:

p1351 (misfire cyl#5 w/ fuel cut-off)

p1083

p1085

p0171(vacuum leak that I've had for some time but hasn't affected drivability of the car)

p0174(^^^)

I reset the codes and started the car. She idled fine for another 5 minutes and then again began idling rough. Read the codes once again and _only_ p1351 showed up.

After a bit of research, I did the following:

Replaced all spark plugs (started car nothing changed)

Swapped 4 & 5 coil pack( nothing changed)

...Replaced #5 coil pack along the the boot (surprise.. nothing changed)

Prior to all of this I've replaced:

Fuel filter

Fuel pump

I suspect that it may be a fuel injector, but Its cold out now and I'll be waiting until the morning to swap out injectors. I'm wondering if anyone could help me out as to what the problem may be.

I would like to note that if I start the car and put her into drive and drive off, she drives fine for the most part. No missing. However, if I am waiting at a stop light for too long she begins to miss.. as well as if I just wait in park, she begins missing. Also, no smoke coming out from the tailpipe.. the only smoke that comes out is because of the cold weather.. it also doesn't smell sweet but Im not really good with scents. I'd like to rule out a blown head.

Any E46 Possibly selling my OEM muffler+ rear resonator

my E46, the car thats eats all my wallets contents

so I'm still not a year into my ownership of my e46,

my last car was nissan almera that in its 5 year life with me cost me about £700, thats £500 for the car and the rest was welding, clutch change x2(don't buy parts from ebay) new driveshafts, new pads. this car was a good runner and only got rid of it due to the mother in law crashing it.

Now this new car of mine brings me new joys every day.

lets start from the top.

no fog or high beam lights on dash

waterpump blew

thermostat blew

coolant leak

rocker cover gasket blew

belts damaged

gear knob clips perished

blown tail light

blown headlight

These things have been fixed, now for the things still to be fixed

Reverse sensors stopped working

brake calliper seized

crazy blinking indicator

both actuators gone on

door lock relays are buggered

sump gasket blown.

now the water pump failing did cause most of the problems on this car but it does seem as tho every time i fix something, something else pops up to cut my glory time short.

now i do love working on this car just wish it would give me a bit of a break.

i know its 14 years old but still.

anybody else have this sort of situation?

Warning light for headlights - but everything works?

Hi, just changed my ballast as my xenon wasn't working and that fixed the problem. I also changed both parking lights.

Everything was good but a day later a warning light came on for one of my headlights, then turned off a few minutes later.

Today both were on and never went away; checked and everything works (xenons, parkers, indicators and highbeams)

And ideas?

what tire sizes u guys running on 17'?

just picked up a 330xi for a daily/snowboarding car so i can keep my e46 m3 at home. I'm starting to really like it and i can see myself driving it most days as its auto. im currently shopping around for snow tires but I'm little unsure what tire sizes to get. the previous owner had 2 225/45 17's and 2 205/45 17's installed recently. luckily, no damage to the transfer case or diff has been done. I'm a little unsure which tire size are original and the tire size sticker on the door jam is missing. these are the wheels on the car

Cold Start Help

This morning I started my car and the Service Engine Soon light came on. :banghead:It seemed that the idle was a little more rough than usual but not too noticeable. I have a generic code reader (actron cp9575) and I was able to pull the codes, but I'm not sure how accurate they are, since it only tells me the code. I looked them up and I found these definitions online:

1. P1343-Misfire Cylinder 1 With Fuel Cut-off

2. P1619-MAP Cooling Control Circuit Signal Low

Any help on how to proceed would be greatly appreciated. The car works well, I drove it about 40 miles, I don't feel any hesitation or anything out of the ordinary, but I can't ignore these codes. Thank you!

Long trip with one valve cover bolt missing?

I know that sounds crazy. But when I tightened the valve cover bolt with a torque wrench today, the screw under the bolt snapped. With other bolts in place, is it ok to drive my e46 for a long trip?

One key died suddenly. Suggestions?

Last weekend my mechanic did my FSR, and had the battery disconnected for a while. Car's running great except for one thing--the buttons on one of my keys aren't working.

I tried the "hold down one button, click the other three times" fix, and that didn't seem to work.

Any other suggestions? The key is pretty old but it died pretty suddenly, and since it died immediately after this electrical service, I'm thinking/hoping it's the programming rather than the key/battery.

Thanks in advance.

Black Friday Sale on AVIN Avant-2 Android Multimedia Navigation

Sudden/very quick acceleration from a stop.

Here is a peculiar problem that's been bothering me for a while.

I have a 2005 325i and it is being driven by 2 drivers, each with their own key. When I drive it with my key, and when I accelerate away from stops such as at intersections, when I so much as lightly tap the accelerator pedal the car takes off like greased lightning.

Meanwhile, when I drive with the other drivers key, the car behaves and pulls off from intersection like a tamed horse. Nice and smooth, and the accelerator pedal accepts a lot of travel without you feeling like you are being shot out of a rifle.

What in the world is going on??!

In the beginning there was a lot of arguing between us and false accusations that I floor the pedal like a madman. Meanwhile the whole time I was giving it no more than 1.5 cm of travel and it would take off like bullet, and I would have to feather it so very lightly in order to have a smooth takeoff. Ive learned to do it that was and have been driving it with a feather touch for over half a year now.

Well tonight we came to a final conclusion (tested and prooven) that the takeoff depends on the key that is used to start the car.

First (proper) BMW

Hey everyone. I'm Sam and I'm new to the bone ride world of BMW.

I bought a 2003 E46 330i M-Sport saloon (known as the ZHP model in the States) at the start of September 2014. I did have a 2007 R56 MINI Cooper S before, so a sort of BMW (it still had the "built by BMW" sticker in the engine bay).

I've already bought a few copies of BMW Car magazine and am getting loads of ideas about where I can take my car in terms of looks and performance. This month's edition (December 2014) has an awesome article about a dude called Kalim and his M3 CSL powered four-door. There's also a thread on here that I've read with a Norwegian guy with the alias of JeppeJ and he created a factory looking M3 four-door. His build was truly spectacular!

I really like the idea of turning my car into an M3 CSL underneath, but keeping it looking pretty standard from the outside. My car's been de-badged (factory option) too, so it could be as lowly as a 320i M-Sport if you were just looking at it. Does anyone know how much of the M3 running gear would carry straight over? My car's an automatic, so I suspect the gearbox would need to change too.

Anyway, that's probably enough for now. Looking forward to getting more involved and becoming a regular member!

Options for lowering an E46 sedan on stock suspension?

So I've been trying to google all of this but I'm not getting anything concise. Thus, I need your help!

I'm on stock non-sport suspension with 18" wheels right now. I want to drop the car so it looks good, but nothing crazy. I live in San Francisco so totally slamming it is off the table.

What are my options? I've read that I can just buy the BMW ZHP springs off ECS, put them in, and not harm the rest of the parts. Is this actually true?Should I get a full H&R cup kit? This one specifically: http://ift.tt/1vpNGZj

Bavarian Soundwerks

Just for what it's worth, I had my eyes on their Simplicity III media bridge. Well I timed it right and was able to purchase the unit on sale. I'm writing this because of a little glitch with the its operation once installed. I must say their customer service is outstanding and product is everything they promise on their website. I use the Bluetooth mostly. With their Simplicity I'm able to use the steering wheel controls for everything including answering and calling out with my iPhone 5. Took me about half an hour to install in my 03 E46 330Xi. Thanks BAV Sound!

Dynavin navigation problem "Sky6.bmp" :o

Hello guys. Im new here, and love the concept of making a website only for e46 fanatics.

I would like to have your help. I have a dynavin multimedia player in my e46. The problem is, that the navigation part, out of nowhere dont want to work anymore. I used it yesterday, but today when I search for adresses, and everthing is ready, I get a pop up telling me that a file couldn't open.

The problem blocks me to open the map at all. I can search, and se the route but cannot open the map.

The message in the pop up that I get is:

Failed to open file: gfx/Xerses72/day/Cloudy/sky6.bmp exiting application

I have put my SD kort in my pc today, and hoped that I could find this "sky.bmp" .. I can find it, but the directions "Xerses72", "Cloudy" isn't in my folder?

I really hope someone got a smart method to fix this. I use the car at my job..

Thank u Guys!

Mechanics living up to bad reputation

ok so here is the situation I came across while getting some gas a couple days ago. I see another e46 at the station with the hood up and a confused looking (and hot) girl staring under it and then I see a sin being commited when she starts pouring green coolant in. I am about to ask her what is wrong when she jumps in and leaves . I go in to get my change and she is already back with hood up. Anyways after talking to her I find out that she had just picked up the car after having entire cooling system replaced and had taken it to an America's Tire. I was thinking oh dear god, when she said Americas Tire. Backstory on car is that it did overheat severely before getting fixed but they told her it would be fine if she replaced entire cooling system for a price of $1100. I asked if they mentioned the possibility of a blown head gasket and she said no. In my opinion they knew or should have tested for a blown head gasket before charging her the money to fix cooling system but they made critical mistake which I believe will hold them liable for replacing entire engine in this 330i. When she picked it up it was leaking and she went right back, (sensor in lower hose o-ring) they tried to half ass fix it and put a ton of silicon around sensor in new hose to stop leaking and gave her the car. It made it for about half an hour before it shot entire sensor out of the hose and dumped the coolant and overheated again. I told her to call a tow truck and when she was ready to take it after the holiday to call me to go along. This is a clear example of them taking advantage o someone who does not know any better, They should have been honest and told her about blown head instead of replacing cooling system and make a few bucks, but their silicon patching job may cost them. I told her to say that car never overheated before she took it to them for a leak repair but it did overheat on freeway today after they worked on it and then show the silicon that failed and that's there fault at this point. I am in school to hopefully work for bmw and am sick of dishonest people in this industry giving all of it a bad name. I would like opinions on the situation from everyone including if you think im right the head gasket was blown before going to shop, (she said it was into red for a long time multiple times) and if you think shop is now liable considering they told her car was fine and would be fixed once they did the work. Also I don't think its related but she said prior to the car starting to overheat that the red oil pressure light would start to flicker but oil is not low and no strange noises. Probably faulty oil level sensor im guessing. Sorry if this is a novel of a post but I wanted to share this with everyone.

How to find if odometer was rolled back on E46?

A buddy of mine is looking into getting into the E46 community. I am helping him find a nice and clean example. One thing we noticed was that there are many low mileage (<60K miles) for sale.

Its very hard to believe this mileage. Is there anyway to tell if the odometer was rolled back. The cars don't have the tamper light on the cluster. But I read that many sellers buy chips on ebay from China and its allows them to easily change the mileage without the tamper light going off. Since the cars are over 10 years old, there is no law protecting the buyer against odometer rollback.

So besides looking at the exterior/interior, anyway to know for sure the true mileage? If we take it to a dealer or BMW specalist shop can they scan for true mileage?

Random Hyper blinking left turn signal

I been having this weird random hyper blinking when I use my left turn signal. It only hyper blinks for 1-2 sec, then it returns to normal speed. There is no bulb out light on the dash and I doubled check all the wiring for any breaks, verified the bul filament was still intact, made sure all bulb connectors are free of debris and corrosion. All the bulbs do blink and work properly, but I will still randomly get hyper- blinking for the first couple secs on left turn signal.

Does the E46 2000 have blinker relays? Or is it all controlled by the light control module?

Removing Power Steering

This may be a silly question but does anyone who tracks their vehicle removed their power steering?

Best,

Justin

Wiring sub and amp to AM headunit

Hey Everyone,

I had a quick question. I have a avic z2 headunit installed in my m3 with factory hk system (used metra harness for install). When I run my rca cables, can I wire straight to my aftermarket headunit? Or should I tap into the hk rear speaker wires from the factory amp?

And If I were to run rca cables to HU, would I run them in the middle or driver/passenger side ?

Thanks

Ravi

Rear wheel Bearing Removal Tool Rental

I am looking into replacing both of my rear wheel bearings on my 2000 323i I believe they have 150000 miles on them. 03 XI Differential part numbers

I have a 2003 325xi Automatic in need of a new front differential. Searching multiple sources seems there is not a lot of information on this. RealOEM shows the part number to be 31507500799 Found a few local yards that had listed the differential. One of which had 5 of them. So figured, just in case 1 was DOA, at least they have 4 others to exchange. Went and picked it up this morning and no where could I find the 31507500799 part number. The side of it is stamped with BMW 14288320. They checked the other 4 and none of them matched the p/n I was looking for. So question is, anyone know the difference between 14288320 & 31507500799 ?

Thanks in advance!

Hoping to get some good pictures for a DIY while swapping this out the next couple days as well.

Multi Ply and Hitching those Deadlifts :)

Decided to suit up today and go for a big pull. I've never pulled a straight bar with a multi-ply suit on, I just use my suit for strongman comps and neutral grip pulls. My positioning was thrown way off from the start but I am very stubborn and thought I might be able to hitch it up the rest of the way.

I was very happy with my speed off the ground, I just couldnt quite lock it out. It was close and I've never posted a fail video before, so here ya go...

(ps i do not condone hitching like this, i've been lifting and competing for a long time at a high level, so i know my body well) :loco:

Brake Noise Upon First Moving

So my 2002 325i makes an awful noise when you apply the brakes after the car has been sitting a while. The noise sounds like it is coming from the rear of the car and will happen only for 30 seconds or so of hitting the brake and then their is no brake noise whatsoever. Hopefully you can hear it in the video below as I am tapping on the brakes.

Brake Noise

I did replace the rear brakes with quality rotors and pads just this past spring and they maybe have 6000 miles on them. Car stops great and no noise once the car has been moving 30 seconds or so. Also, I can drive somewhere and park for 2, 3, or 4 hours and the brakes will not make this noise. So..... any clue as to what is making the noise?

As an aside I did replace the rear passenger wheel bearing, hub, cv axle shaft, and trailing arm thanks to the help in a recent thread I posted. The light you see on the dash is from the brake pad sensor which was pinched off (I received new sensors in the mail this week). The brake noise occurred before the replacement of these parts.

M52B28Tu issues after engine mods. Please help.

Posted initially in the General section, but there was no input there. Hope someone can help me here:

I've been struggling for a while with the engine of my car.

I have done the following mods:

M54B30 Intake Manifold (adapter was designed by me)

Custom regrdound cams (252 degrees and 10.2 lift intake and 247 degrees 9.7 lift exhaust cams)

S50B32 Headers

The car was remapped at a dyno.

Ever since installing the intake manifold the car has been suffering rough idle. Initially the issue was at 5th cylinder. After that the cams were installed and the rough idle remained the same, however the bad cylinders moved to 4 and 6 (according to INPA), screenshots below.

So far I have done the following in order to attempt to fix this problem but in vain:

Full VANOS rebuild using the BEISAN kit (both o-rings and rattle kit).

All o-rings of the intake manifold have been replaced

Intake manifold gasket.

Brand new Crankcase pressure regulating valve and all pipings

Since I was not sure of the o-ring of the throttle body adapter I put silicone as well.

Brand new rubber boots between the TB and the MAF

The ECU software was downgraded to Euro 2 (only 2 lambda sensors because of the s50 headers)

When replacing the cams, I noticed that the hydrolic lifters on the exhaust side were different from the one on the intake side, also some of them seemed stuck, so I replaced them all with others (2nd hand but presumably working).

Another issue that I noticed during the remap is that there are huge drops of the torque at 4k rpm and at 6k (there was a drop before the mods at 4k rpm as well, but it was not so big)

The most common diagnosis for this issue is that the engine is sucking air from somewhere, the issue is that I think I have replaced all possible options with little to none effect.

A friend of mine suggested that this might be caused by hydraulic lifter issue but I am not really sure

The tunner that remapped the car said that he has seen similar effect from the intake manifold, but I dont understand why.

Any advices or thoughts are welcome.

And here are some screenshots and dyno of the car:

Dyno:

The blue graphic is stock

the green one is with all mods, but before remap

the red one is after remap.

The huge torque drops are easily visible

Sometimes cylinder 6 goes to normal, but cyl 4 is always out of norm

Nanny caught on camera abusing baby in Uganda

Kampala – A house keeper has been caught on camera abusing a baby in the East African country of Uganda after parents left for work.

Thankfully, the toddler survived the horrifying ordeal.

The two-year-old Arnella is seen terribly tortured by Jolly Tumuhiirwe, 22.

The video captured by interior security camera early last week at Erick Kamanzi,’s home, reveals a breath-taking story where Tumuhiirwe is trying to feed the baby.

According to family sources, Kamanzi last week came home and found some bruises on the baby. He did not ask what happened but he hastily went to review the cameras which, he had taken long to monitor. This was last Saturday November 15th 2014.

What he saw is what is seen in the video below. Raged to the marrow, Kamanzi bounced on Tumuhiirwe and clobbered her to pulp. Done with it, he turned to tend to the baby as Tumuhiirwe ran to police where, she reported an assault case against her Master Kamanzi.

The Kiwatule police swung into action, raided Kamanzi’s home and arrested him. He promptly confessed to the charge before he was dragged to cells. After cooling down, Kamanzi asked the cops to look at what made him clobber the maid. A mere look at the video changed the cops’ stance and released Kamanzi.

Speaking to the investigator today, police chief spokesman CP Fred Enanga confirmed that Tumuhiirwe’s case had been taken over by the events.

Reading the file number as CRB 1346/14 of Kiira Road, Enanga said the nanny was yesterday charged under Anti-torture Act at Nakawa Court.

But Enanga hastily adds that police are contemplating on revising the charge and upgrade it to attempted murder. He said the Tumuhiirwe will re-appear in court on December 8th 2014. Efforts to get hints on the baby’s mother were futile as family sources maintained silence on the question. – The Investigator (Uganda)

Fog lights (front and rear)

Hi to all, here I go with my first question in the forum...

I have a facelift 2003 325i (round fog lights). The thing is that each time I turn them on I wake up the birds that are sleeping on the trees. I would like to lower them to a reasonable angle but I really can't find how, all I found is a little tiny hole over them but as I can see there's nothing in that hole, no screw o knob or nothing.

The only thing I found is this pic that I suppose that's what I'm looking for but I don't know how to get to it :hmm:

Since I live in an area where the fog gets really heavy I also would like to have rear foglights, I've seen a DIY tutorial for the pre facelift but I couldn't find anything for the post facelift.

Last but not least. Which lamps would you recomend me to install in the frontal fogs? (I don't have Xenon, just the stock H11 bulbs).

Thanks in advance!

A couple Maintenance related Questions

Hey All -

Doing VANOS seals and VCG here in a couple weeks. Its best to swap Solenoids at the same time as preventative maintenance, yes?

I bought a second VANOS to do the rebuild myself, so I don't know how many kms it has on it. I figured this would be a good idea, but everyone'S opinions is important for me.

Lastly, my tail lights leak water, when I open the trunk when it rains -- you get water everywhere. They are oxidising, and generally look horrible. I am wanting to replace them with a set of these;

http://ift.tt/1ztfo7U

The problem is these cost almost $400, whereas there are other LED sets that look exactly the same for sale for about $150. Normally you get what you pay for -- especially for the same product, so I am kinda budgeting in my head for this, *BUT* the difference is labeled according to build year. So, if the e46 build year is 98-01 they cost like $150. Never more. If they are 02-05 then they cost $400. Was there something different, electrically, from 01 to 02 with the facelift conversion which would cause this price increase?

Cooling system issues

Changed radiator, water pump and thermostat.

Bled the system. Couldn't do cold as my battery was weak. Electric fan came on when the temperature needle got in the middle. Checked for any leaks under, everythings fine.

Then took it for a spin, got to the gas station and i see steam coming out the hood, I open the hood, and a bunch of steam coming out the ET area, where ET connects to rad, and bleeding screw.

"Puddle of coolant on the ground, I assumed it was coming out the bleeding screw, wich i can't remember how tight it was, i think i left it a tiny bit open, in case there were too much coolant, and not to blow my ET under too high pressure."

And i noticed that warm air just started coming out the blower vents inside, before air was still cold even thought temperature needle was in the middle.

I go back home, unscrew bleeding screw, assuming i put too much coolant, alot of coolant came out of the bleeding screw/valve. I revved the engine to 3k rpm to get some extra coolant out the bleeding valve. Then i check again for leaks under while it's still running, nothing. Car has been running for about 45min nonstop. I then assume everything is fine, so i put back the engine cover, and go for another spin, i get to my friends house, and again steam under the hood.

I unscrew valve and cap, alot of steam come out, but no extra coolant.

Car now starts to overheat, and steaming doesnt stop. Whenever i take the ET cap, after i shut down the car, its like theres way more pressure than usually, the hiss sound goes for awhile, like at least 15/20sec, instead of the usual little 3-5sec hiss i used to get before i changed that leaking rad.

Could it be that upper hose?

Or maybe like I've read on here, that i need to burp that bottom hose, to get air out of inside the waterpump?

It seems somehow the pressure os very high, the hiss sound is really different than what im used to hear.

I havent did the lower hose test/burp yet, so im not even sure it get hot down in there, but i know for sure the top hose gets hot.

And the ET even vomited coolant on me once, when i took off the cap after shutting down engine, trying to diagnose this overheating issue. Luckily coolant wasnt hot, just a bit warm. A bit odd since it been steaming, but tells me that coolant is not circulating properly.

Will try the lower hose burp trick tomorrow morning, if that doesn't help, ill changed the top hose.

If none its not none of those two things, what do u guys think causes so much pressure to build up in the system? I don't think i have a big leak, as pressure wouldnt buildup as much, in my opinion.

My best bet is air in the lower hose, and building in waterpump.

Would love to hear ur twocents.

Thank you

Sorry for the long post, trying to be as descriptive as possible. Will probably post videos tomorrow if lower hose burp trick doesn't fix the issue.

The best LCI tail lights to ever be seen on an E46!

Anyone tried to retrofit F30 mirrors onto an E46?

The new F30 mirrors are part of the new generation of mirrors design that a lot of newer vehicles are using, namely BMW and Mercedes. It gives a subtle, modern feel to the car.

I like the style, but I wonder if it would even look good on an e46.

I wonder if anyone has retrofitted one of these on an E46? I wonder what it would look like? Maybe someone can photoshop it onto an E46?

Here is what it looks like:

Engine Codes: P0118, P0125, P0128

Temp gauge will usually read normal, but randomly rises into red for a few seconds, then drops to completely cold (high voltage condition, appears to be causing at least one of the codes). When it reads cold, idle rpm rises to ~2200 rpm, and hot start is impossible if the car is shut off (strong smell of gas, seems to be trying to use way too much gas, as if the engine is cold ).

From what I've read, the sensor that controls your fuel table and gauge is the dual channel sensor located somewhere on the engine block. I'd like to locate either pictures of the replacement procedure or a written guide, but an exploded diagram of the engine that shows sensor location would work as well.

I will do my best to document the repair with pictures when I get it done, provided there's not a guide out there anywhere. Thanks in advance for any help, I'm just kind of scratching my head here at the moment. :hmm: Also, if anyone in the Houston area would be willing to lend a hand, I'd love to get this knocked out this coming weekend.

Bilstein struts with no perch

I have been looking to replace my front shocks with a pair of Bilstein HDs. My only problem is every where I look, they are being sold with no perch for the spring to sit on. When I look up the OEM Sachs it has the perch welded to the body of the strut. I have seen the non XI version of the HDs and they come with the perch welded to the body of the shock. My question is, has anyone purchased these Bilstein struts with no perch and installed them? and if so how did you install them in regards to what do the springs sit on? :hmm:

Haven't updated this forum in a little while, so I thought I'd do a mega thread with various cars that I haven't posted up recently rather.

First up...

Car: 2011 VW Golf R

Service: Stage 1 Paint Correction

Comments:

- This Rising Blue Golf R was generally very well kept for its age and usage.

- The front end was covered in clear vinyl wrap and had been waxed previously, so various polish and wax residue remained in and around the edges of seams.

- Light swirls all over paintwork, noticably heavier on sensitive gloss black plastics

- After rejuvenation, gloss and clarity were immediately added to the paintwork and metallic flake pop was noticeably improved.
