So much for "Congress shall make no law.... abridging the freedom of speech". I will give props to Schumer for the fact that he does recognize that the 1st Amendment is pretty ****ing clear when it comes to such a fundamental right.
But an amendment to the 1st amendment would be ridiculous. People, whether they're individuals or organized into a group like a corporation or union, should have the right to free speech without Congress (or the states, for that matter) regulating who, what, when, and where they can say it.
Politically, this is not a hill I would want to fight and die on. Individually, I think it would codify a fundamental shift in the relationship of the government to the people, and not in a good way.
