Hello all, back in January my 323i was wrecked. Im now in the market for another e46. I only have about 6k to spend. Ive seen some decent ones but have avoided the models with the build dates that come with the ZF trans. This is due to reading about the reverse failures. Both the GM and ZF trans have reverse issues BUT from what Ive read the GM trans can be fixed for a few hundred bucks while the ZF trans needs to be pulled and rebuilt. My question is how serious and common is this issue? Am I passing up good cars just because they have a ZF trans? Has a cause ever been figured out to the ZF reverse drum failure...is it just people abusing their cars and flooring them in reverse or is it just the luck of the draw when these fail? Any feedback would be appreciated.
