Crank vent then catalytic fail???

I read that a BMW maintenance item that is often overlooked is maintenance of BMW's crank-case ventilation system (they name it in different words) if overlooked can render the catalytic system for emissions ineffective.

I have a an 03, 325xi...116.5k new to me. I need to find more info about this.
