Okay so I've been trying to track down the source of my misfire's in my '01 325i. Yesterday was the worst as it threw 2 P0300 on top of the constant P1345 & P1353 its been throwing lately. I started with the obvious and replaced a crack coil pack & put in new NGK Iridium plugs which greatly smoothed everything out. I cleared the codes, put some fuel system/injector cleaner (suspected a stuck injector & bad gas), filled up with fresh Shell 91 V-Power and took it for a good burn. The car felt way more responsive and pulled effortlessly across the rev range & didn't throw any CEL's. When coming to a stop, when I clutch in and let the revs drop, they fall all the way down to 500 - 900 before settling at 750ish (or whatever normal idle is), and also starts to run rough. When I got home both P1345 & P1353 were shown as 'pending' but never tripped the CEL.
I then remembered the PO had told me there might be an issue with a butterfly valve that caused a rough idle at times for him so I went straight for the DISA. Also noticed its out of a 2004 325xi (yay junkyard writing... hello red flag!). Pulled it out and the amount of play in it seems to be excessive to me (click below for video). The O Ring was still really tight though.
If this is 'normal' jfoj's thread has helped me establish a few good places to start looking at maybe tomorrow.
