E46 323i making sucking/vacuum noised after overheating

I've owned my E46 for 6 months now, when I first got it I became a member here and have read a lot of the good maintenance threads.

323i MY1999 manual (no clutch fan, only 1 single electric fan).

After a month or so I released the cooling system is like a time bomb so I ordered an overhaul kit, radiator, expansion tank, upper and lower hoses, water pump etc...

Now that the essential was covered I started on the less important stuff...

-Intake boots upper/lower

-DISA new

-ICV cleaned

-Valve cover gasket replaced

-VANOS seals (what a pain)

-New fuel pump and filter

And I have changed oil/filter 3 times in 6 months (every 2-3k miles).

All parts are genuine from BMW of South Atlanta cause they do good shipping to AUS.

Last Friday when driving home my car started overheating, when a turn off came up I change lane and BANG! upper hose blew out - coolant exploded all over the road.

Got the car towed home and began the autopsy.

Turns out the electric fan wasn't working. With direct power to the motor it works so I guess its the little controller box attached to the fan assembly. Ok, new fan on order from BMW of South Atlanta as well as a new upper hose (I should have kept my old one, was in perfect condition...).

Now I am trying to find out how mach damage has been done to the engine.

It was running pretty sweet after doing all the work to it over the last few months. Finally had it running well! :banghead:

Since it overheated that day, now when I start it the engine is quite "loud".

By that I mean all the normal noises like belts and air sucking etc are louder than normal.

When I blip the throttle (that small initial part that only does the ICV and does not actually move the throttle plate), there is a loud vacuum noise coming from the throttle body.

It is exactly the same as this guys youtube vid:

The engine hesitates on acceleration and feels like it is missing power.

Unfortunately everywhere I find someone with my exact symptoms there are NO resolutions!

I took off the valve cover to check the head, looks good, nice gold oil.

Took off all the intake gear up until the manifold and inspected all the rubber hoses, boots, gaskets... Everything is perfect, throttle body gasket as new.

No water in the oil, no oil in the water, no pressure in the water...

I blocked off the ports to the oil separator from the balance tube on top of the manifold to isolate it as it is one of the only parts I havent changed, but still no fix!

The only thing I have not done (that I can think of) is the intake manifold gaskets (because they are such a mammoth task). Maybe when I overheated the engine it cooked them?

Any input would be much appreciated :hi:
