Vanos solenoid! Help!?

So i was trying to loosen the vanos solenoid on my adventure to my camshaft position sensor, when i tried loosening the hexagon where youd put the wrench i notice that the cylinder part of the solenoid would spin however yhe hexagon part wouldnt, is my solenoid broken? Also any suggestions on getting the hexagon off without me paying $25 for a 32mm wrench im only going to use twice?
