Need a new laptop to do some tinkering

Hey everyone I'm in the market of a new laptop, but really first need to know the requirements to install and operate some simple bmw tuning software, I want to be able to fully unlock the programming in my car, and tinker with some settings. I'm not sure what are the minimum requirements. So I can get a machine that can handle the task and be very good in other things, my old machine I know it's not up to the task plus I don't think windows XP is going to cut it in today's more high tech world
