Thought id throw up a build thread of my e46 and whats been done. What im doing and whats to come.
So abit of background information
Iv always loved the body style of the e46 since i was around 14 years old. So when i finally got my licence and my bank agreed that it was time to buy a bmw i searched for one day and night for a solid week till i found one that i liked. It was completely factory. Sunroof leather interior standard 16inch wheels. However it was a 318i. Great car down hills and cruising on the highway but when it came to stop start or acceleration it was majorly lacking in that department. However i delt with it until after the radiator blew it became worse than ever before. Wouldnt rev past 4k even in neautral. Acceleration was almost non existant. Anyway the moter was screwed. So rather than just put a standard 318i engine back in i thought id do something a little different. Iv currently got an r32 gtst for a daily driver. Even for a 2l turbo she gets up and boggies
Iv saved a fair few pay checks to complete this swap but heres the lowdown.
Iv brought an rb30 (3l block used in patrols vl commodores and r31 skylines) an rb25 det head from an r33 and mating them together now. The engine itself aside from the slight water gallery modification and vct oil feed modification isnt a hard job.
Still yet to make my engine mounts sump and gearbox mounts but hopefully next weekend they will be in and all tacked into position (cross member also needs to be modified aswell. The engine should be fairly responsive with a garret gtx3582 ball bearing turbo. Aiming for around 500 hp as a weekend car. More after torque though and with a 25/30 lack of torque isnt an issue. Anyway heres a couple photoes
