No steptronic

Hi Everyone,

New here and could use a little help. I bought a 2002 325i a couple of months back, runs and drives very well. Ever since I got it, if I would hit a hard bump at night the dashboard lights would go out. Coincidentally while plugging in my phone charger one night I found that by moving the cigarette lighter socket I could make the dash lights come on and go out. I assumed someone had been under there and probably damaged a connection that was causing a short. The other day while manipulating the socket to get the lights to come on I noticed that the "S" for the transmision sport mode was flickering on and off. I wasn't sure if the two things were related or not. However, moving the gear selector to the left would result in a solid "S" mode and steptronic worked normally. It had rained last night so in the morning when it was dry I thought I go and try it. Immediately when in "D" the "S" light would flicker on and off. I then noticed the "S" would stay on even if I was in Park, Neutral, or reverse. Steptronic worked but didn't tell me what gear I was in. I decided to dig into this. Sure enough the previous owner must have run a screw threw or had somehow exposed the wiring on the two connectors associated with the PRND and the M+/- on the shift plate. The yellow/red wire and the gray/red wire had fused together and the gray/red wire had burnt through or been cut where it leads to the shift plate connector. I separated and taped each wire, soldered and taped the gray/red wire and buttoned everything back up. I thought sure this would resolve both issues. It has in fact resolved the dash light problem they no longer go out, manipulating the lighter socket does nothing. However, I have no "S" mode or manual display or function. Display and function always remain "D" regardliess of shifter position. I've gone back several times and checked my connections. Even searched for "no steptronic" found that the white wire going to the shift mechanism seems to be a common problem. I see no problem with that on mine. I'm wondering if there is a fuse for the steptronic. I don't have the fuse box diagram. It is quite possible that I blew the fuse while making the wire repair. If there is a fuse would anyone know which one. I've pulled the diagram from online. The only thing close seems to say sequential transmission but on my car there is no fuse installed for these. I feel certain this problem must be electronic. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
