Hello all, I am happy to be posting as a true owner of a BMW. I managed to acquire a 2003 325xi at a very good price. The car is not perfect but runs and drives. I am looking forward to good sources of information here as I have observed for quite some time but at this time here is what I am looking at:
1. CV axles have their boots damaged and they are clicking. No biggie to replace and I can handle that pretty much myself.
2. marker lamps some are bad but no biggie as the signals are reaching the bulb sockets, it is a matter of contact, etc.
3. Here are the issues I am dealing with that I am not sure what to make of them.
a. The door lock cylinder came off its socket on the driver's door. I have not disassembled the handle on the door yet but was wondering if anyone had any comments about it. As a result, and since the key fob does not work, I cannot lock the car and the P indicator stays on after parking the car. It stays on all night, I figure the ECU never goes to sleep as a result of the lock not being engaged. Is this assumption correct? has anyone dealt with the cylinder coming off? If need to replace, how can I maintain the same key for both door and ignition?
b. The radio does not work, it is the factory business CD head and it is just sitting there. The previous owner cut the harness that connects to the radio. I figure I can get the harness somewhere on the net and splice it back in place and try if it turns on. Does this sound correct?
c. I found two wires under the passenger seat. One looks like the antenna wire and the other one some type of weird connector. I fear that the radio in this car is a two part with the head being the controller and under the passenger seat some type of amplifier and "brain" for the audio system. Pictures of this are below. Any ideas?
The car is completely stock and I'd like to keep it that way. I pulled the codes because the SEL is on and found misfires on cal 6 with fuel cutoff, I suspect the coil or plug are bad but have also heard no compression stories, the car runs fine for the most part but at times starts to sound like a misfire, I will further diagnose and report back :-)
Anyways, I really appreciate any help and look forward to contribute as well.
