Cliff notes:
-2002 325i with 83,xxx miles
-I have a recurring P0444 trouble code, no other codes
-Get it about once a month for 2 days, then drive the rest of the month with no codes
-Scares the hell out of me because I recently eliminated some more troublesome codes with repairs (vacuum leak, cylinder misfires)
-Never want to see the SES light of doom ever again
-Doesn't affect performance or anything, does not stall like many others with P0444
-I also need to be able to pass emissions in the state of WA
Data from OBDII is P0444 - Evaporative Emission Purge Control Valve Circuit Open and the freeze frame data is:
Fuel system status: Open-loop due to insufficient engine temperature
Calculated load value: 10.59%
Engine coolant temp: 185 F
Short term fuel % trim - bank 1: 0%
Long term fuel % trim - bank 1: 0%
Short term fuel % trim - bank 2: 0%
Long term fuel % trim - bank 2: 0%
Engine RPM: 1054
Vehicle speed: 0 mph
I know the gas cap often fixes this one, but for me that's not usually the case. Sometimes I'll just start the engine and get this code. How can I get rid of this crap? Most people in the forum have 2-3 other codes along with this one, not solely P0444. What could cause just this one? Hopefully the freeze frame data is helpful in some way, I have an ELM OBDII and the OBD Fusion iPhone app which is amazing.
