SAP vacuum switch access - solved

A tip for SAP failure when no vacuum is present on the control valve that sends fresh air (pump output) to the exhaust manifold. I've seen a few DYI's that miss a couple tricks.

When you have to dive behind the drivers side, rear engine location to remove the switch, you may have difficulty removing and reinstalling it? To remove it, take off the cabin filter assembly including the filer mount (4) T-30 bolts.

Trick #1 - also remove the blower fan access cover (2) T-30 bolts that has the (4) bolt holes from the filter mount removed earlier. Lift the cover up and out. Now you can get your hand in there with large space opened up when the cover is yanked. Before this cover can be pulled you need to rotate (2) twist fasteners on the drivers side DME shroud that has the power brake hose and wiring harness in the top. Move the shroud off to the side or work it out to gain access the intake vac supply where the supply hoses connect.

Trick #2 - reinstalling the switch may seem straight forward as you're simply locating a rectangular hole in the mount plate and sliding the switch's plastic retaining tab toward the passenger side. Push and click. Wrong! I ordered a new switch and discovered it wouldn't seat no matter how much force was applied. I tried a little grease on the angled tab with no luck. Got the hair-dryer out and heated the plastic tab area up and she popped in like butter. That was after several attempts and considerable cussing.
