My car came with a manual mirror (the clown nose acted as a knob) and I wanted to upgrade to an auto dimming mirror. I did the research on a car that had an auto dimming mirror, and found that there were only 2 pins missing: switched 12v and reverse 12v.
I tapped into the switched 12v power for the homelink in my headliner, and I tapped into the 12v on my taillight for reverse power. I used proper tabs and was very careful with my wiring.
I just got my auto dimming mirror from another E46, and it worked for about half an hour. After a trip to the store and the gas station, I was stopped at a light and I heard a "pop", and I realized that my mirror had started leaking fluid.
Could this be a result of it being wired wrong? If it were wired wrong, wouldn't it have broken right away, rather than working fine for half an hour? Is it a coincidence?
