hi, bought my 330i sedan in May at 75k miles, was then fitted with 4 x 225/45/17 Dunlop SportMaxx RT on OEM 8J wheels, OEM suspension (non-sport)
noticed bit too much understeer, then cause i like to experiment bought 7J-wheels for 205/50/17 tyres, on the wheels there were still tyres, so perfect for a short test/comparison
on these 205s i actually loved the car for balance and being more nimble than on the 225's
as these 205 tyres where too old and wasted to keep them, yesterday i've put new 205/50/17 tyres on the wheels (Goodyear Eff. Grip Perf.),
now what i've noticed is that my understeer is back! tyres are on psi's recommended
what i'm thinking is that the car had better balance with these old 205 tyres, as the rear tyres were twice as old (10 years!) as the front tyres, althus harder, less grippy, so more oversteer...
is almost unbelievable to me but really was faster in corners in dry with these old crappy tyres
now think there's something with suspension that makes the car understeer too much with 4 equal tyres (so in normal setting!)
the front suspension rubbers have been replaced already by previous owner, rest of suspension is as original (2001)...
is it possible that the car understeers bit too much cause of replacement of the front suspension rubbers and not the rest of the suspension?!
anyhow, in 2 weeks i'll fit new dampers on it (4 x Koni FSD), and the rear suspension rubbers bushings will be replaced too, hope then i got good balance again?!
thanks for your thoughts!
