hey guys, I have an 00' 528i, Im aware this is not an E46, but Ive asked around some other forums with little avail.
So, as stated, 00' 528i (has 323i E46 engine if that makes you feel better about me joining your forum), any ways, for the past 1.5k or so miles ive had a grinding sound from the rear end, what sounded like a router running down aluminum. This would only occur when coasting, and feathering the throttle to maintain speed.
there was a simply remedy for this, dont feather the throttle... or turn up the radio
recently, their has been a louder grind. that happens over bumps and the sort. along with an aweful vibration, like Im riding on the rumble strip. This is mostly occuring in heavy torque situations like 2500 rpms of 2nd or 3rd.
I climbed under the vehicle and checked on the driveshaft, all weights are in place, the U joint looks healthy and the carrier bearing was as well ok. However the rear diff. is covered in old fluid indicating a previous leak, and the rear axels (that appear fine) slide in and out with no side to side wobble.
as well as when the car is in the air the rear tires (primarily passenger side) feels like a ratchet clicking, and an audible click from the diff.
any thoughts or further trouble shooting?
