Ever since I pulled my car out of storage, turning the steering wheel at a standstill, while the engine has warmed up, results in a noticeable moaning/groaning noise and a stiffening up of the steering wheel (i.e. it becomes harder to turn). What can cause this?
Please note, this does not happen when the car is cold (e.g. first start in the morning), and the sound/stiffness is worse the hotter the motor is (e.g. coming home from a long drive). This was not an issue prior to putting the car away for storage (for ~8 months). Steering fluid is topped up. All steering component parts are original.
The car is a 2004 325i with ~120,000 km (~75,000 miles).
Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!
