Alright, the ol' 2002 e46 wagon (manual) is cracking over 360 000 kms, and she's showing signs of her age. Here's a list of electrical/mechanical issues that have popped up, and I figure they must be common:
#1, The starter is crapping out; seems like the solenoid isn't holding. I hear a "click" and "whirr" (like the starter is spinning), but there's no engage on the flywheel. Sometimes it'll engage for half a second, but not enough to crank it over. Usually it starts on the 2nd try, although it is becoming less and less reliable.
I figure I must replace the starter, however has anyone had the same issue, and had any luck with simply cleaning the contacts or any other trick?
#2, it suffers from an issue where it will either have an oscillating rpm idle, or sometimes stall entirely. This only occurs on warm up; sometimes warm up when the engine is completely cold, or more often, when the car has been driven, shut off, sat for a few minutes (to grab something in a store), and then cranked back on.
#3, the latch for the back glass (wagon) keeps ejecting. Sometimes I'll be driving down the road and just hear it "click-clicking" away despite neither the remote button being pressed, nor the button on the hatch itself being pressed.
#4, my OBC button has failed, but after a quick search, I found that it's probably the wire in the stalk and steering wheel removal instructions can be found here: http://ift.tt/1xZ7H9M
#5, my driver's window has "popped off a track" and I believe I found a solution for that as well (remove the inner panel, and fix it).
#6, the door cylinder in the driver's door has entirely failed (disconnected from the locking rod), so it neither activates the door lock, nor the auto locks. I'll be removing the interior panel to figure out all that stuff soon.
It's really the top two issues that are annoying me, and a little wisdom will shorten the amount of time I'll be working on it.
thanks,
Sim
