Intermittent EML + SES light when driving

Hey guys,

I've had a 2003 325i for about 3 years now and have had no problems until recently. About a month ago, the EML and SES light will come on while I'm driving. It comes on for about 2 or 3 seconds and then it will turn off. While its on it seems like the engine is stalling or in limp mode, i have no power when I when I push on the throttle, but as soon as the lights off the car runs fine. It seems to happen when I'm at low speeds or when my foot is not on the throttle. Sometimes at stoplights, the car will go completely dead (EML + SES + Battery light) and ill have to put it in park and turn the car back on again, in which it starts up perfectly fine. Since it is an intermittent problem, the car throws no codes when I try to use my OBD II scanner.

I took it in to a BMW master certified shop and they replaced the intake boot and the main serpentine belt. It didn't fix it. Took it back a week later to replace my brakes, oil filter, and for them to take another look at it. They said it could be the throttle body housing internally shorting out and shutting off during engine operation. I didn't have them replace the throttle body because I was already spending $1500 on other repairs and didn't have enough money to cover the $400 throttle body.

My question is if there is any other cheaper repair options I should look into before replacing the entire throttle body?

Thanks,

Ryan
