E46 M3 05' brake issues

Having a few issues with my brakes. They feel very noisy and unsafe under harsh braking. I've had the car in for a new abs pump which has helped but they still don't feel right. The discs and pads look quite meaty, I thought perhaps the previous owner had replaced them with cheaper non OEM parts? Whatever it is I don't feel confident to drive the car hard, which is probably a good thing but kind of defeats the point of owning one!
