Especially in marine engines. Started my boat at my parents house while still docked yesterday and let it run for about 10-15 minutes to warm up and out of no where both twin outboards stalled at once. Cranked it and nothing, very unusual that both motors would stall at the same time. Long story short I diagnosed that it wasn't spark but fuel. Pulled one of the fuel filters and this is what was in it:
Right away I knew there was water, so I brought it to one of my stores to verify using the water finding paste.
These are the instructions. Long story short if the brown paste turns red, there is water in it.
So I put some paste on new squeegee handle
And this was the result
Bright red, meaning there was ALOT of water in the fuel.
Long story short ethanol has a strong attraction the moisture and water, and lets water accumulate in the fuel tank. Obviously its going to be worse in boats/water craft. But it also blows in cars.
