I have read a bit on it but I wanted to hear from someone who has owned both cars. I need to know how much more the BMW is going to cost me every month or every year in maintenance vs the 350z.
I currently own a 350z track edition. It needs nothing, it has the nice brembos, I just got new tires, engine, transmission, everything is healthy. These cars are bulletproof when it comes to reliability. The car only has 120k miles and it is my daily driver. I have yet to change anything other than oil and fluids on it.
But, I am making payments on the car still. It's not much monthly but I'm trying to save for a house and I have been considering over the past 1-2 months selling the car and buying something that I can buy in outright cash.
I'm looking to go with a e46 330i/330ci for around $4500-6000, which seems to be the going price where I live for one with a clean title and about 120-150k miles.
I'm aware of the difference in the characteristics of the car but one thing I am not familiar with is the actual estimated cost of the e46 annually.
I can safely say that the Z costs maybe $300/year for maintenance if that (unless something catastrophic occurs). How much do you guys spend every year/every 6 months on fixing or repairing the e46 3 series?
I'm asking because I would like to get rid of my car payment but if the repairs are going to be a lot then it may end up being the same cost in the long run.
I found a 2001 330i with 125k miles and he is the original owner with all records. Looks good in the pictures and it is listed for $5500. If this car won't have any major repairs for the next few years then selling my Z would make sense. I just don't want to pay off the Z use the money to buy the e46 cash and then have to pay $400 next week, $600 6 months from now, $230 for this part, and there and have it eat away at the "margin".
If anyone's owned both cars and really had a chance to compare the cost of ownership, please chime in. Thanks.
