I have an 01 330Ci, and was consistently getting the P0740 code for slipping TC. Transmission shop was determined that it had to have TC replaced and would probably need full rebuild.
I just couldn't believe that a transmission could be so messed up, but run so well. Ordered a filter kit and used Valvoline Maxlife and went to transmission shop to get the fluid and filter changed. Drives better, shifts the same, but it has the final lockup at highway speeds. IMHO it will be helpful to drop the pan and look before committing to TC replacement or full rebuild. When the pan came down on mine, there was very little material on the magnets, so we continued with the change.
Will let you know as we roll up a few miles. Hope fluid change has extended the life of the ZF transmission.
