World Car Awards - BMW in top three

Bridgestone Corporation and the New York International Auto Show hosted a press conference yesterday at the Geneva International Motor Show. At the press conference the top three finalists for the World Car of the Year, World Luxury Car, World Performance Car, World Green Car, and World Car Design of the Year were announced.



BMW made it as a finalist in three of the five categories. Under World Car of the Year, from an initial list of twenty four entries, the BMW 4 Series joined Audi's A3 and the Mazda 3 as a finalist. The i3 held on as a finalist in the World Green Car category, along with Audi's A3 Sportback g-tron (+Audi e-gas) and Volkswagen's XL1. The World Green Car award has been presented by the Bridgestone Corporation for the past seven years. World Car Design of the Year also had the BMW i3 as a finalist, making the finals with the Mazda 3 and the Mercedes-Benz C-Class. World Luxury Car and World Performance car had no BMWs in the finals. World Luxury Car finalists were the Bentley Flying Spur, Mercedes-Benz S-Class, and the Range Rover Sport. In the World Performance Car category the Corvette Stingray, Ferrari 458 Speciale, and the Porsche 911 GT3 all made it as finalists.

The World Car Awards are now in their tenth year. Overall winners in the five categories will be announced at the New York International Auto Show on Thursday, April 17, 2014.



The New York International Auto Show runs from April 18-27, 2014 at the Javits Convention Center in Manhattan.
