My 325i Wagon's engine is on the way out. I am thinking that it might be fun to rebuild an M54 myself. I have never rebuilt an engine before and am trying to decide if this is a good idea for me to try it.
If I do it I will put together I high performance engine build.
In the past I have done the following projects myself.
Vanos seals and rattle rebuild
Replaced the Oil Filter Housing and build an oil cooler system
Water pump
Thermostat
Zionsville Radiator and ET
R&R'ed intake manifold
CDV delete
I do all my own maintenance.
If I did it I would get the Haynes and Bentley manuals. And I know of a good machine shop that is experienced with BMW engines. I would go slow and be meticulous. Also my plan was to rebuild a junk yard engine and swap once I am done. So I would feel no rush for time.
So from this does it seem reasonable or does it seem like a bad idea for someone who has never rebuilt an engine to attempt a performance engine rebuild?
Thanks,
