So I change the rack and pinion but something is off, a bit.
First-before I installed the new rack, I had bad control arms, bushing, tie rods. So I assumed the alignment I had recently is or was way off to begin with.
After changing everything and installing the new rack I set and locked the steering column straight and I measured the tie rod ends from the old shaft and put the placement the same on the new one. However, the car drives straight the wheels are straight but the steering wheel is at about maybe 20 degrees off. Is it possible that a wheel alignment will fix this or did I set the steering wrong some how? Even though the steering wheel was locked straight the end of the shaft was at about the same 20 degree position when I slid it in the universal mount, that connects to the rack shaft.
Second-I wasn't able to go to BMW to pick up new washers for the fluid lines just yet but I found some new copper ones the same size. Is it okay to use copper washers instead of the brass for the time being or can I reuse the old ones? Moreover how tight do they have to be for them not to leak?
