My 318ci 2000 model

Hi guys need help with my petrol 318ci it's making a crazy rattling/knocking sound a Hoover /air leak sound it does it when it's cold and hot it gets louder when I rev the car it started a few days ago I dnt knw what it is and what to do. I searched on google and some people have said it could be the disa valve?? I'm not sure someone pls help oh yh and the engine management light is on and the car has lost power aswell??? Anyone pls help thanks
