From Piano > Black Suede

As some of you may know, 2 weeks ago I attempted to paint my interior trim Piano Black/Gloss Black. It was my first time ever painting and it was somewhat rushed. So it didn't come out the way I expected it to.

So yesterday I went to Joann's Fabric and Crafts. Picked up a yard of Black Microfiber Suede. Keep in mind that this is my first time ever working with fabric too. So I'm a bit clueless. I asked the old lady there that cut the fabric for me to help me pick out a glue. I told her what I wanted to glue the fabric on and I even took out one of my trims ahead of time and showed her. She told me to get Fabric Fusion Adhesive. The glue alone was $15. So I thought to myself "Hey I'm paying $15 for a glue, it's gonna work magic and stick very well".

Came home later that day and practiced on something else with a small piece of the fabric. Guess what..!? The F'ing glue is like water! Just glides and doesn't dry up. Ok well I applied it on something else and left it for a few minutes to see if it gets tacky and let me stick it that way.... Nope! No matter what I tried, the damn glue just would not stick.

So I went to Ralph's and picked up Elmer's Craft Bond Adhesive Spray for $4. Now can you guess what happened? Yupppppp that thing sticks like crazy glue! I love it! So I got to work immediately :excited:

Life lesson learned during this project: Just because something is expensive, doesn't mean it's good

Advice for people that want to do this too: Have a wet clot handy and keep wiping your hands. If the tiniest bit of glue touches the suede, you have to rip it off and start over again because the fibers in the suede get glued together and turn white.

Sorry for not taking pictures of every step since it's just basically repeating, but I did take some pictures here and there. Also from the Final Product of course :D

Pictures don't do it justice. My interior was dirty and dusty. Carwash tomorrow :woot:

The Glue that didn't work for Sheeeeeeeet!

The Glue that actually worked

The Trim around the Shifter was actually the hardest piece to do

Now the Final Product :D

This trim didn't turn out too good. Will have to take it off and do it again
