I have done a ton of searches about this and have come up with nothing solid. Have not read any posts that described the same symptoms but then again that doesn't mean it's not out there. Here's the issue:
Bought a 2002 325xi from a dealer auction a couple weeks ago and although it runs quite well and had only a few issues, the one that has me stumped is an issue with the locks. When I hit the unlock button on the fob or unlock it manually the same thing happens. The driver door unlocks and then immediately locks again on its own. What I have to do is hit the unlock button and then quickly open the door before it locks again. Once I have the driver open, I hit the fob unlock button twice and the rest of the doors will unlock. This is a random problem but happens about 80% of the time. Also, the alarm does not turn on. Don't know if they are related, maybe the previous owner disabled the alarm due to the locking issue. Another issue is that while I'm driving, the car will just randomly lock the doors. Sometimes it happens while driving around town, Sometimes on the freeway, and sometimes not at all. This is my third e46 and have never had anything like this happen before. My wife has also told me that after she opened the trunk one day with the fob, The sunroof tried to close on it's own. (The sunroof is off track and will not close at the moment. Good thing I live in Cali) The sunroof is disconnected so that no further damage can be done so I found that to be very odd, but again, don't know if its connected. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated!!!
Here is a quick recap of symptoms:
1) driver door unlocks and then immediately locks again on its own.
2) car will randomly lock doors while driving.
3) alarm does not set
4) sometimes the windows will not work at all. I have to turn car off, turn it off and on a few times and then they will go back to normal.
I originally thought gm5 but after reading about other people's problems, they didn't match up. Thinking maybe the driver door regulator?? Battery looks good. Didn't test it but it's a fairly new battery and connections are good. Really am at a loss on this one guys. Need some help. Thx!
