Bosch ignition coils and engine pinging

I'm getting engine pinging/detonation and have ignition coil codes for all six cylinders. These are not the usual misfire codes but rather they are ignition related codes. I have always had them as long as I have owned the car and even after a new engine swap they still remained. If I clear the codes they come back within 10-20 seconds. I find it ironic that the old engine was running Bosch ignition coils on all 6 cylinders so when I bought new coils for the engine swap, I too went with the Bosch brand. I'm wondering if there is an issue running the Bosch branded coils on these cars. I sure wish I knew someone with an E46 that could swap me one of their BMW coils and that would probably lead me closer to solving the mystery. It is either a DME problem or these cheap Bosch coils. BTW the car runs start and drives fine until I accelerate and hear the pinging. I have tried different brands of gas/octane, fuel cleaners, and even put in a new ignition wiring harness with no results. The pinging is more prominent in the winter months.



Anyone else getting pinging that is running the Bosch ignition coils?
