Suddenly only 2nd and 4th gear work?

Hey guys!

So yesterday I got my car back from the body shop after getting rear ended, and everything seemed to drive fine until I got to the last stop sign...

I came to a stop and went from neutral to 1st, and all of a sudden I have no first, so in a panic I throw it in 2nd and just take off like that, then I try to shift to 3rd and there's nothing there...

So I finally get it parked and I find I have no 1st, 3rd, 5th, or reverse. It feels like everything was pushed up farther, like even going to neutral from 2nd feels like I need to push it forward more to get out of gear, if that makes sense? I still have the barrier from neutral to reverse, but once I push up to fully engage reverse it's like there is nothing there and it just pops back into neutral.

I called the shop and they said right when they got it they had problems with the clutch engaging(disengaging? were they pressing the brake instead of the clutch? who knows...) and the pedal was really hard to press. Now I had just gotten a new clutch installed a few months prior, and had no problems before dropping off.

Now, what's really confusing me is how I was even able to drive it at all, I would think it should have not worked immediately, instead of breaking 5 miles down the road. Also, the stick wasn't centered, it was off to the right like someone tried to go into 5th and didn't let it warm up (car has the fifth gear center issue where it won't center until the transmission warms up) and my MPG had gone from ~24 when I dropped it off, to 12 when I picked it up.

I had replaced the shifter linkage due to excessive play a few months earlier, and I wanted to check that now that I have it home, I just haven't gotten to it yet. But I would think broken/disconnected linkage wouldn't let me select any gears.

Does anyone have any ideas of what it could be? This is more to settle my curious mind than a full diagnosis lol

Thanks for any help or insight you may provide!
