Hi all,
I just got home from work and noticed that some of the interior lighting was oddly still on inside my '01 330ci. More specifically the lightning around the knob to turn on the headlights is illuminated. Similarly the LED readout at the bottom of the gauge cluster (the thing that shows MPG, time, etc.) is illuminated and won't turn off.
I tried to unlock the car with my key fob and nothing happened. I unlocked it by putting the key in the lock cylinder on the driver's door just fine and the alarm went out. I put the key in the ignition to turn off the alarm. The car started and ran fine. However, I cannot use the key fob to lock the car and engage the OEM alarm system. The lightning issues I describe above also persist. The screen on my navigation system also wants to stay on and I have to manually turn the monitor off.
The central lock button (the button with the key on it) works fine to lock and unlock all of the doors but does not resolve the lightning issue or engage the alarm of course.
Anyone have a clue why this would occur? Is this a indicated of GM5 failure?
I have to go out of town in a few days and I'm most concerned about the lightning not turning off draining my battery and of course the alarm system not engaging.
Appreciate any insight! I'll be calling my local BMW CCA recommended service center in the morning.
