I'm stumped.

I have a 1999 bmw 323i e46. The automatic transmission gearbox light is illuminated. Its like a gear with an exclamation mark (!). The car has trouble accelerating past 4 revs, took it to the mechanic for a diagnosis and he suggested either the transmission fluid or mass air flow sensor, changed both and then reset the codes however they just popped back up. The cars idle is fine. Its a 5 speed streptosonic automatic transmission. Any help is appreciated cause I have no idea what it could be.
