GM5 Module Problem

The central locking system and key-fobs stopped working on my e46. I purchased a new GM5 module from a yard. After putting in the new module the locks all worked perfectly. However, all windows other than the passenger front stopped working from the center console. I tested the rear window door switches and they open from the door. If I put the original GM5 module back in, the windows work perfectly from console or door, but the door locks don't work. I had the yard get me another replacement GM5, and it behaves exactly as the first one I got from the yard.

I am wondering if the vehicle software needs to be updated in order to support the modules I have acquired from newer models.

Is anyone aware of this, or seen this issue and know of a fix?
