Recently took ownership of my grandma's 2000 323Ci convertible. It has 25,000 miles on it and spent the first 16 years of it's life in Florida. I have been having problems with the trunk opening randomly and I'm starting to lose my mind over it. It really is annoying to have it open when you pull out of the garage, when you tap the brakes, when you put the key in the ignition, when you pull over, when it's just sitting there and you walk by it, etc etc! The only way to make it stop is to lock the car and then close the trunk. Sometimes when it gets really bad you can close it and it will pop right open instantly. Close, pop, close, pop, you get the point. If I hold it down the actuator just makes a continuous noise then locks so the trunk won't close. There are so many random occurrences of what opens it that I can't even list them all. I have read other posts about it being an issue with the key fob - it happens though when the key is no where near the car and happens with both sets of keys. I have read posts about it being a short in the wiring - I have torn the trunk apart and traced all the wires and can find no breaks in them anywhere. I have also read about it being an issue with the wiring in the trunk handle (yes I did replace it because it was cracked), but when I disconnect the switch in the handle, the trunk still opens the same way. I thought maybe i could just disconnect the actuator and just use the key to manually open it, but no luck - the light in the dash stays on showing open trunk and I can't use the convertible top! :thumbdwn::thumbdwn: If anyone has any ideas I would greatly appreciate it! Does this sound like a faulty trunk lock actuator? I'm at the point where I might just have to suck it up and bring into a dealership because it's really taking the fun out of driving the car. Thanks!
