Car hunts at idle and some times dies even while pushing the clutch in while driving

My car since i've had it has an issue at idle where it hunts...it drops to 500 rpm's and lower at times and at time will hunt over 1000 and drop down below 500. I've taken out the IAC once before and cleaned it. Is the IAC valve toast? Should I get another one? Should I go check and search somewhere else for the problem? or both??
