A buddy of mine is looking into getting into the E46 community. I am helping him find a nice and clean example. One thing we noticed was that there are many low mileage (<60K miles) for sale.
Its very hard to believe this mileage. Is there anyway to tell if the odometer was rolled back. The cars don't have the tamper light on the cluster. But I read that many sellers buy chips on ebay from China and its allows them to easily change the mileage without the tamper light going off. Since the cars are over 10 years old, there is no law protecting the buyer against odometer rollback.
So besides looking at the exterior/interior, anyway to know for sure the true mileage? If we take it to a dealer or BMW specalist shop can they scan for true mileage?
