Is it normal to feel and sound like a bus - high rpm, low torque, till it warms up?

My first bimmer, so forgive me if I am just inexperienced and this is normal for the bmw's.



When I first start the car in the morning and pull away it sounds like it is revving a lot for the amount of torque it is giving out.



After it warms up, like within a few minutes, it is normal and I take off from stop lights with normal revs and plenty of normal torque.



Is there something wrong or nothing to worry about?
