Door latch frozen shut?

It was below freezing temperatures and snowing today and I couldn't get the door to open from the outside or inside. Not the windows but the door itself. No problem unlocking or locking the door from either the remote key or the door release latch on the door panel. Is it possible that I broke the locking mechanism by pulling on the outside door handle too hard when I tried to yank it open? If the door locks and unlocks then the locking mechanism should be fine, right? I tried pulling on the bottom of the door panel as well as opening the rear door and pulling on the rear edge of the door but no luck.
