No sound from front left speakers

Good morning,

I have been having an issue with the audio system on my car: 2001 E46 euro-spec 330D, LHD, Harman Kardon, BMW Professional CD deck with 6-CD Charger in the trunk.

Here is a history to help understand:

1) Water infiltration

First of all, I have been having an issue with water infiltration on the front passenger side, finding the floor mat to be wet if the car was left out in heavy rain. This was accompanied by heavy static through the speakers when the radio was turned on. I cannot recall wether the static was in all speakers or just the front right door. This static would eventually disappear as the car dried out. Sometimes I would also loose the front-end LCD display when that happened.

I have tried to locate the source of this infiltration and I thought I had solved it by cleaning the engine compartment of all dead leaves stacked up in the corners especially near the front right A pillar base. For some time it seemed like it had solved the problem since the car was left a few times out in the rain with no more issue.

At the same time I have been trying to keep the car in a garage as much as possible, but three days ago I couldn't avoid it and guess what, got the wet floor issue again. I should mention that the car has the roof window option, so I had considered looking for a clogged drain but haven't done it.

2) BT kit installation

A few months ago I have successfully installed a Dension Gateway BT kit which replaces the CD charger on the deck. Just had to flash the firmware to fix the device from rebooting randomly during a conversation. Although I am not 100% sure of this, I think I started having a specific problem with the front right tweeter some weeks after this installation.

3) Front right tweeter issues

I started to have cracking noises coming from the front right tweeter, which became more and more annoying. Eventually the cracking would end with a loud pop after which there would be no sound coming out of it anymore, until the cycle repeated itself again. Then it stopped working altogether. I concluded to a front right tweeter failure and decided to change it.

4) Bavsound stage 1 installation

Instead of replacing just the tweeter for a stock one I decided to go for this kit after reading much good about it and because of the plug & play feature.

I went through with the installation two days ago and then discovered after installing the new front right speakers that no speakers on that door worked!

Another issue I discovered was the front right vapour barrier was completely loose in the lower part. I was also changing the window regulators so I put everything back in place properly. All the wiring looms looked alright.

All the other speakers are working just fine and the sound is a lot better.

I concluded that my previous diagnosis was wrong : instead of a tweeter failure I had a problem with the front right channel altogether, it's just that the tweeter issues was much more noticeable due to the higher frequencies.

Which is what brings me here for some help on how to resolve this issue.

So far, this is what I have been able to determine:

- the front deck is wired to the trunk-mounted HK amp with 4x2 wiring (FL, FR, RL, RR)
- the HK amp is a 4x2 channel amplifier. The front tweeters and mid ranges are fed by the same channel and are passively crossed-over. The front mid-basses are fed by separate channel, same for the rear mid-ranges and finally the trunk mid-basses. There is no subwoofer in HK wagons. http://ift.tt/2t8hG27

Therefore, my first suspicion is the wiring from the front deck to the HK amp. Maybe it has been damaged when I installed the BT kit. I do remember having to push a little hard to get the deck back in place after installing the specific plug&play harness. This would explain why the entire door, thus the FR channel, doesn't work anymore.

My second thought is the wiring loom to the door from the car: is there a connector there that might have come loose or oxydated by humidity? Is there a separate connector for the power mirror? The mirror works just fine so if there is a connector for everything together then it wouldn't make sense.

If anyone has an idea on where to start and how to do things, other things to look at, please feel free to help, thank you very much!
