Howdy all,
I have an 02 325iX touring that started intermittently cranking with no start, and finally has stopped starting all together. The day the intermittent no-start occurred the instrument cluster died as well. I have purchased another but have not been able to move the car to get the panel coded yet. I have been through the 'E46 NO START' thread that has been pinned, along with threads on bimmerforums and the zhp forum and would appreciate some additional ideas.
So far I have confirmed:
Fuel pump works, Fuel relay is ok, I have fuel at the rail.
I have checked Fuse 29 for DME and pin 15 on the coil harness and have proper voltage at both places.
I have the auto (neutral safety switch) and it has not made a difference.
I pulled codes and had P0313, P0300, P0070, P0460, P0305, P0304, P0171, P0128, P0174, a lot of which indicate misfires, but the CEL was on before the no-start occurred. I reset the codes and have not been able to get any to come back on since (in cranking only).
I don't have the tools to confirm fuel pressure at the rail, but I would think that I would at least get a stumble-fire of some sort if fuel is getting there at all. I also have not been able to test for spark to see if its Crank-sensor as I haven't had a second set of hands to help out just yet.
So here are 3 questions:
1. What would you check next if you were me: fuel pressure at the rail? spark for crank sensor?
2. Can the dead instrument cluster contribute to any of these symptoms?
3. Where would you start spending money first? Fuel Filter?
This is a rat-wagon that I bought very cheap, so I half expected to be dealing with issues, but since its my semi-daily having it not running at all is a serious PITA.
Thanks!
