DLC-20 to OBD-II upgrade

I have a '99 E46 which has the DLC-20 diagnostic port under the hood. It bugs the crap out of me that to read fault codes for the modules in the car (other than the engine) I have to plug into the DLC-20 port instead of the OBD-II port inside the car. On or after June 2000 BMW deleted the DLC-20 connector and moved the signals to the OBD-II, so this thread is not for those of you with newer cars.

I haven't seen any threads on upgrading pre-2000/06 OBD-II ports.

From the wiring diagrams there are 3 signals missing from the OBD-II.
Pins 1, 8 and 9 are missing. Contact pins part number 61138366598, 3 required.
Pin 1 comes from Fuse 30 which is a terminal 15 signal. Terminal 15 means it's wired to the ignition switch and is 12V when the ignition is in positions On & Start and nothing in positions Off & Acc. This wire is Green/Brown. This signal can be tapped from the DLC-20 connector pin 16, oil level sensor pin 1, alternator and engine computer. Since this signal is just power it can be tapped from many places. I'm going to tap it from the instrument cluster black connector pin 5, wire color green with blue stripe because it's nearby.

Pin 8 is a signal called D-TXD1. Wire color is white with violet stripe. This signal can be tapped from the DLC-20 connector pin 20 or connection block above the fuse box (see step #3 here http://ift.tt/2uDtQ19). Connector pin 61131387140 will be required to connect to the shorting bar.

Pin 9 is a signal called F_TD. Wire color is black. This signal can be tapped from the DLC-20 connector pin 1 or connection block above the glove box. Connector pin 61131387140 will be required to connect to the shorting bar.
