This may come as no surprise to our senior members, however I feel everyone can benefit from the information.
- Mid April 2017, I set out to replace my Febi FCABs as preventive maintenance; They were 2 years old.
- Hopped on RockAuto.com, and headed over the "Premium" area of their Control Arm Bushing section.
- Ordered these: http://ift.tt/2roAM1I
- Fast forward a week - MOOG FCABs have arrived at my doorstep, and I install same day.
- During installation I compared them to my old Febi bushings, and they looked IDENTICAL.
- Car drives a bit tighter, no major difference... all is well, or so I thought.
A couple of weeks ago, I notice a slight clunking noise when I jab on the brakes.
I figure it must be my passenger side control arm, as this is the ONLY suspension component that I haven't replaced yet.
The clunking noise progressively gets worse, and now even a moderate tap of the brakes shakes the steering wheel (once, upon application of the brakes).
I get the genius idea to stick my head out the window while driving slowly, and jab the brakes.
The front wheels visibly jerk at 9 & 3 o'clock, VIOLENTLY, with severity increasing proportional with how aggressively I jab the brakes.
This is my lesson learnt to not stray from the trusted brands.
Originally I was planning on replacing the Febi bushings with Meyle HD or Powerflex, but nobody in Canada carries them for a reasonable price.
Now I've ordered a set of Meyle HD from FCPEuro, and pray to get them delivered as soon as possible.
For reference to those who haven't already seen the video, this is exactly my symptom, except perhaps a bit worse.

TL;DR: Do NOT buy MOOG FCABS.
