Hey guys, I'll be changing the oil on my 2001 330i for the first time by myself. I've never done an oil change but I've watched plenty of videos on how to properly do it. I am stuck between buying a 3 ton jack that's on sale in Costco along with double locking jack stands and wheel chocks. Or buying Race Ramps. What I like about the Race Ramps is that they are a solid core, unlike a lot of the ramps out there that are fairly hollow on the underside. I will most likely be doing the job outside on normal, somewhat smooth asphalt. Was wondering if you have any tips for safely doing the job.
I will feel much more at peace with the ramps to be honest. But the jack and the jack stands allow for more versatility on doing other jobs under the vehicle, such as the fuel filter, tie rods, bushings, you name it.
If I go with the jack, I'll raise the car up, wheel chock the real wheels, having the E-break on and in 1st gear. Then put the jack stands on the side supporting points, lower the vehicle slowly on to them and raise the jack up again to have pressure but not be lifting the car onto the front jacking point.
