Alternator issue

I own a 1999 bmw 323i e46, lately the alternator has been acting up. I have a 1999 bmw 318i alternator, would it fit? I don't want to take of all the radiator components and the intake hoses and then realize I need to wait a few more weeks to get a new oem alternator. So it would help to know if the 318i alternator is the same as the 323i alternator.
