Buying 2002 m3 vert

Hey guys I have a quick question I've been looking around for an m3 vert. And have tested a manual and an smg . However I noticed that while in A or automatic mode? It has a slight delay between shifts I'll give it had and it takes around 1-2 seconds to shift no jerking or anything just delay. Is this normal? It feels completely different than my auto 325i. The salesman said it was normal but I doubt he knows . It has 76k btw thanks
