Hi Everyone
I am after some help on a fault that i am having with my uncles car.
The car is a 2001 325ci with low mileage (around 50,000 miles), on a trip down from London to Cornwall he reported that the traction control light and ABS light flashing followed by a thumping noise. He pulled over and had a look and then drove on for it long happen again 100 yards further on. He continued his journey.
On his arrival i plugged in my diagnostic computer and it brought up 2 fault codes in the ABS/DSC, these were:
5E3C: Rotation Rate Signal
5E38: Rotation Sensor
I cleared these fault codes and took the car for a spin, the car was only driven about 10 meters are less than 10mph and the traction control light flashed followed by the ABS pump firing off for around 3 seconds. I re-scanned the car and the fault code 5E38 re-appeared.
I then went into the live data and found that the YAW sensor (rotation sensor) was reading at -14 degrees when the car is sitting on the flat. when driving the YAW would move to -45 degrees!! on a right hand turn but will only move to +4 degrees on a sharp left hand bend.
From this i have sort of concluded that the fault is with the Rotation (Yaw) sensor, however whilst monitoring the live data whilst the car was being driven i also noticed that the Lateral acceleration sensor which measurement is given in G force never moved at all on the road with harsh acceleration and braking.
Does anyone agree with my diagnosis of the YAW sensor and also does anyone think that there is a problem with the lateral acceleration sensor?
I have never worked on a BMW before as i am a HGV mechanic by trade and was after a bit of input before i go spending his money!!!
Thanks Everyone
Michael
