I wanted to use my new timing lock tools while doing a VANOS rebuild on my 2005 325i. The flywheel TDC lock access hole cannot be seen with the engine in the car with all components attached. I was able to reach the area, feel the plug and determine it had a half moon on the top to grab on to. (Picture 1). I made a small hook out of coat hanger (Picture 2) but couldn't get enough leverage. I cut another coat hanger to about 16 inches, hooked it to the small hook to pull the plug and install the flywheel lock. Before I installed the lock, I put a zip tie through the hole in the lock pin to aid in it's removal. I plan to coat the plug with silicone spray to reinsert.
